Re: New edition of Starmada coming in January!
Tease... tease...
Thanks! Does this mean no faceted shields in Starmada Nova? How will that work with the Romulan Armada, etc?

Faceted shields won't be quite the same as you think of them in SAE, but they exist.
Looking very cool Dan. I really like how the ship data is presented in a concise band of information. Should be able to fit 3 or 4 of those on a sheet of paper.
Looking forward to finding out about some of those new weapon traits (diffuse, telescopic, focused, ballistic, guided, scatter and volatile).

Bit of a laugh:
Volatile Torpedo - Will not shut up! "I'm mad at you, I'm gonna get you, really I am, you dirty rat"
Telescopic Gun, close ranged - Boxing glove on a spring.
Scatter Torpedo - Launches and then does a runner.
Paul
Edited.
There is a song that has these lines in it: "...One way or an-other I'm gonna gittya, gittya, gittya..."
I think that these weapons should make that sound when they are fired. (!) <LOL>
Dan, maybe you should correct the headlines "news" page on the company website from january to april or so.
I would, except once the topic is posted, the title can't be changed.
Can you make a new post and then migrate this topics post data to the new and more accurate post ?
Is it possible? Probably.
Can I do it? That's another question entirely...
Almost there...
Almost there...
Gee, if we continue to show great patience, perhaps you will eventually "tease"-out the complete rulebook!
Cheers,
Erik
With solar wind shouldn't you move fastest when you are traveling perpendicular to the direction of the wind?
It seems that overthrusters have disapeared. Had they been replaced by something else?
Btw, about pivot, which are related to OVT, i've read that they simulated the ability to move in a direction different to the ship's front. So, why should it have to pay for pivot each turn?
it should pay once and keep the pivot freely as long as it doesn't pay to modify it. Either one direction or the other.
Marc
Cool, solar wind movement. Did I perchance give you the inspiration for that Dan?

Or maybe the idea came from being propelled as a result of eating too many beans in the great outdoors, standing too near the camp fire.
I think there may have been a game that included it but hard to remeber, it was probably about thirty years ago.
Time seems to go at lightspeed!

Just looking at the conversions sheets again (gearing up for some work ) and I noticed that under Stealth it says that it gives a ship Stealth (3). Is this correct and does this mean that there are "levels" of Stealth? Just curious.

Maybe a version of convergent evolution then, as in my free Salvo Fire rules I had rules for powers that looked similar to the Solar Movement rules.
 Sorry for the double post, but is there likely to be naval movement, and could you combine the solar and naval movement to allow for naval battles in the age of sail?

Actually, it was the Eldar minis that did it...

Yes.

Yes and yes.

Yes.
Cool. Thanks.

Would it be balanced to have a battle where on force uses one mode of movement and the other force another? I'm thinking specifically the "solar" (say for an eldar force) and "regular" for something else? But even then etheric could just represent a different type of drive system...
Also, just want to mention again that for the eldar in battle fleet gothic, they when fastest when their port or starboard was facing the solar wind direction and not when their stern was - much like real life sailing.
-Tim
Eldar solar sails cannot be compared to real sailing ships.
Solar "Wind" (Don't know why the name was chosen) is so weak in comparison it is impossible to tack, you cannot use it to go towards the source (unless collecting the particles to use as a fuel). Don't forget that sails in an atmosphere (depending on the design) act like aircraft wings, difference in air pressure on either side can pull a ship along.
To even use it you need a sail large enough to gather the required mass of solar particles to move the mass of any ship.
We are talking of a sail miles across, more like a parachute than any sailing ship's sails.
Pretty much put the sun behind you and go where it takes you.
Just my 2d (old money) worth, but it is something often forgotten. Yes I know impossible is "Funner", real word I read it in a book once.
Paul
The intent was to have ships be 60* off the direction of the wind to achieve optimal speeds. I have corrected this in the rules.
I can't see why a game would be inherently unbalanced if different sides used different movement systems.
