Topic: My first ship in S:NE

As its St George's Day today, thought I'd give OldnGrey's shipyard a shot at designing a vessel. I haven't yet found a quick and easy way of designing ships by hand, but hopefully I will soon, and when that happens, expect a deluge of supplements...:)

The Albion was one of the Terra-class battleships which were constructed in the years preceding a series of conflicts with the Vetras. During this conflict strategically slower battleships and fleet carriers were at a disadvantage compared to the faster cruisers, which could reach systems under attack from the Vetras quickly enough to prevent the loss of the colonies. After the conflicts, battleship and fleet carrier construction was halted in favour of faster ‘gunship' cruisers which could get to systems even quicker, while existing vessels, such as the Albion, were mothballed

However, during the Chrolios Incursion, the ‘hammer and anvil' approach of the Chrolios caused the Solarian Navy immense difficulties. Huge motherships, filled with fighters and armed with long-range weapons, ground down the SN cruisers while attack ships and fighters finished them off.

In desperation, the mothballed fleet was re-activated, and the Albion, with a small battlegroup of twelve cruisers, moved to defend the system of Barnard's Star from the Ninth Incursion Fleet, a force with five motherships and over eighty attack ships. Although the Albion herself was lost, with eleven of her escorting cruisers, she not only destroyed four motherships and heavily damaged the last mothership, her battlegroup held off the Chrolios fleet long enough for re-inforcements to reach the system.

The Albion is now on the Solarian List of Honours, a name that is kept in service in perpetuity.

Re: My first ship in S:NE

Wow, Impressive ship with an excellent history.
This ship is Huge; you & my nephew would get along... lol

Re: My first ship in S:NE

Yeah, I remember seeing some of your nephew's behemoths...:)

Working backwards from the SAE-SNE conversion, this would be a 30 huller. I thought I'd see how OldnGrey's spreadsheet would cope...:)

EDIT: I should mention that I had an epiphany--the main issue was the attack dice string, which seemed to me to be the main sticking point, with the ECM, thrust and shield boxes being the secondary issues. If I simply noted the starting # of attack dice/thrust etc, I could design a ship in more or less the same method as I do/did for SX/SAE. I think I got locked into the conversion method I'd done for the Eratran Cluster, and that just blinded me to the obvious way of designing ships by P&P...
