Topic: Introducing Neew Players to S:NE

At the Recon2012 gaming convention last weekend in Cocoa Beach, I entroduced five gamers to the Starmade:NE by running four games.  I made Federation & Klingon type ships.  I gave the Fed CAs of the Constitution class six Large Phasers in one battery that had FX2,PH2,SH2 as the three batteries and the dice numbers were 6.4.3.2.1. etc.  The Photon Torpedoes were one battery of FH2.  The new players were able to make it work with guidance. 
:idea: 0ne player suggested that I put the FX2, PH2, and SH2 seperate in different lines to make the SSD a little easier for new players; they have one less calculation to make and only have to shift one left for Long Range, and one to the right for short range.  I think it will make it easier for new players to Grasp.

Yes, that will make it easier for new players. It takes up more room but New players shouldn't have more than a few ships to print out anyway.

Funny, one of my opponents told me the same thing. I did something like this (stats are fictional):

it would be good to insert thearc diagrams on the SSD, in very little like B5Wars SSD.

I added in one other thing to make it easier for new players:  I gave all weapons the weapon trait Guided.  This way, there is no need to worry about the -1 for Short Range or the +1 for Long Range.  Until the ship is "Damaged" the left most number is the number of dice that need to be rolled.   It worked well at the Rapier2012 Convention here in Jacksonville last weekend.  One of the games was 2600 points on a side with five players including me.  It was much fun. 8-)

Does nobody use the arc reminder?
I laminated one for myself. (Actually I got a cheap laminater and went a little nuts laminating sheets just for the hell of it. Including a copy of the font guide) :roll:
