... and while I'm glad to finally see the Lyrans and Hydrans, I'm a little disappointed that ESGs are purely defensive systems. This seems like it would take away some of the knife-fight fun that the Lyrans brought to the party. Was it just too difficult to model the SFB effect? In the olden days, when carronades were special systems, they would have fit the bill.

The tough part I would think is the ESGs are energy-based weapons. So the more energy you put in the more powerful it is. Well, Starmada does not have a concept of energy. Yes, could have another weapon that fire 360 degrees and give people the option to either fire the ESG as a weapon or use it as protection. I see it as a Phaser-3 that does around 2-3 times the amount of damage.
ESG weapon? What is it? First time I heard that.
The ESG is a super shield that is able to stop drone as if they hit a wall or damage other ships, including fighters.
ESG could be simulated with a range 3 weapon, possibly with overload (as if you put a lot of energy on), area, scatter, and maybe siomething else.
