Topic: SAE to Nova

Hello all!

I am new to Starmada and just received my copy of SNE: Klingon Armada. I also have the core rulebook.

My question is for the conversion of the other SFU ships. I know that NE Romulan Armada is already out but I'm chomping at the bit for the other ships. The said ships exist as AE versions of Alien, Distant, and Battleship armada. I have seen and read that there is a conversion tool available to make these AE vessels into NE vessels but I cannot seem to find it.

Proof that I'm definitely blind along with being old and senile.

I'm planning on purchasing just the ship cards via e23 and convert them manually just so I can give 'em a test drive  :ugeek:

I love the SFU vessels. The ship cards are all I will need to convert them, correct? Or do I need the core AE rulebook as well?

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.

Re: SAE to Nova

The conversion is relatively simple:

SHIELDS: The number of shield (armor) boxes is equal to the total number of shield facets in SAE.

HULL: The number of hull boxes is equal to the SAE hull size times 150%.

THRUST: I was not happy with the way thrust was being calculated in SAE, so I went with a more subjective method:

-- Destroyers, Frigates, and other small ships have a thrust of 7
-- Light and Fast Cruisers have a thrust of 6
-- Other cruisers have a thrust of 5
-- Dreadnoughts have a thrust of 4

For weapons, use the stats given on p.36 of either Klingon or Romulan Armada.

Other systems (shuttles, tractor beams, etc.) are simply carried over as is.

Re: SAE to Nova

Thanks, Daniel!

So I take it that just having the ship cards will suffice?

Heck I might even get the SAE Core + SAE:KA anyways.  :geek: Just to add to my boardgaming variety.

By the way: GREAT GAME! I love it!

I'm a casual (not by choice) SFB player and am relishing the ability to play with the same vessels in a different way albeit via Vassal. Hard to find "live" gamers in my area.

Kudos to you and ADB.

p.s. I know you get asked a bit but...any idea on when NE/AE Battleship Armada will be released?

Welcome to the Forum! 8-)

I have been playing Starmada for a while and enjoy it a lot.  Designing my own ships and their weapons appeals to me agreat deal.
