Topic: Other Ship Construction Program Options.
Hey all:
SXCA is fine program. The only thing is that I don't have Excel to run it with and I don't have $200 or so to buy a copy. Has anyone considered a more stand-alone option?

I am working on it...
We had a java version someone did, but it didn't do the actual sheet IIRC, just the design. I lost mine somehow (I've got so much junk it's not a surprise), and haven't been able to find it since...
The one I am working on is a stand-alone program (written in VB and in JAVA) to that it can be very fast in a native Windows environment (VB) and functional in other environments (JAVA) -- while having the ability to export files so that you can share them with other people using the program.
Excel not needed.
I use Open Office for sxca spreadsheets.
It can open some other spreadsheets also.
Best thing is that it is free.
Check out www.OpenOffice.org
I am using version 1.1.4 but I believe that there is now version 2.0
This prog is sometimes included on DVD versions of computer shopping mags.
Hope this helps.

I was thinking off that, but I wasn't sure if OpenOffice would work with XCL files.
Thanks.
Actually, I Dl'd the latest (2.0 Version) and it seems to work pretty well, excpet the box font on the ship page is just wierd looking boxes
Could be a font problem.
The fonts Impact and Wingdings are needed.
Wingdings for the boxes.
I have noticed a problem with the latest spreadsheets (V.2.61) that I get a value error when putting in the Range and to hit figures.
