Topic: What happened to the Lyrans?

Just a note: I am really getting into Starmada AE. I have been running a few different games around my town, mostly Star Fleet. So I have been buying the PDFs of rules and ships. So far the conversions are pretty well done... until I got Distant Armada.

I am a big Cat fan in Star Fleet and was really excited about setting up a Kzinti/Lyran face off. That attitude changed when i got the book and found the ESG is a defense only weapon. I was expecting some kind of weapon like in Federation Commander, but this is a real disappointment. Not much else to say except now I need to crack open the book and make my own version.

On the plus side... Hellbores work pretty cool!

Re: What happened to the Lyrans?

I like the way the ESG is handled and think it is translated into Starmada fairly well.
I wonder what the CR of these ESGs is.  I would add one to each of my ships... 8-)

The CR is dependent upon other factors in both AE and Nova. You could use either The Shipyard (for AE) or Shipyard Nova to make your ship, both have the ESG option. wink

Re: What happened to the Lyrans?

I created my own 'ESG' for my own 'lyrans' but with Starmada Nova. They are Rng 3, TT, Prx (that's bacause they can hit many targets), Sct (their power is greatly reduced with range), Acr and Pnp (they should hit fairly easily, especially fighters).
About their defensive capabilites, well, I have to translate that as more armor than other ships of the same size.

Re: What happened to the Lyrans?

The two problems I see in AE for ESGs is there is no range zero, no ways to target it (which is how you buy Area of Affect Weapons), and ending your move within a couple of hexes as hard due to the simultaneous move system. Now the design is making sense.
