Topic: Rules question

Okay, so about a month ago I altered one of the races in my Eternal Quest setting because, the way I read it, their primary anti-seeker mode, with a range of 3, would also attack them (ships attacking face-up seekers targeting them have range as short-range [so for this weapon would be range 1], proximity weapons attack own ship if at range 1, ergo every time the ship fired its main anti-seeker weapons, they'd be hit themselves). Now, while I haven't heard any 'official' ruling that disputes this, I'm keeping to it.

However, what about ships with weapons that have a range of 6 or more, and the proximity weapon trait, that engages a face-up seeker marker targeting them? Do they still get hit by their own weapons, or does the interception take place at range 2?

Re: Rules question

I believe that the rules say short range for ship AA fire at seekers.  Thus if a shipboard weapon has a range of six & short range of 2, weapons with the proximity weapon trait could fire these without hitting the firing ship.
This would be the difference between short range & point-blank-range.
Cheers 8-)

Re: Rules question

When the rules say that face-up seekers are attacked "at short range" that simply means all rules which apply to short range attacks are in effect. It does NOT impose a specific hex range on the attack. Thus, a range-3 weapon with the proximity trait would NOT attack the firing ship.

Re: Rules question

Oh, okay...

I'll keep the Nohvarans as-is, though, because a change back to the status-quo might not go down well, and it does give them a slight difference from the human fleets anyway, which was the initial intention...
