Topic: Eternal Quest

After around two months of working on this supplement, I finally present to you Eternal Quest, my largest supplement to date, and the first human-centric setting that features powers who originated from Earth.

Two hundred-plus ships across two documents (with a ship reference list with CRat values and a quick description of the larger human powers' tactical doctrine), with three alien races (the Nohvaran Protectorate, the Intharan Commonwealth of Unions and the Thelaran Clans) as well as the Terran Federal Union, Euro-Scandinavian Union, New Russian Federation, South Asian Defence Pact and South-East Asian Commonwealth.

I had two major influences here: the Starfire novels (in particular the capital and heavy capital missiles, dual-mode weapons with one offensive and one defensive mode) and the Lost Fleet/Stars series by Jack Campbell (the combination of the enigma and bear-cow races of the Beyond the Frontier series led to the creation of the Intharans)

I have deleted the first copy of the zipped file, with the second one including the PDF file further down the page. People who have already downloaded the first file (57 at last count) can download the PDF only. People who have yet to download this file can ignore the PDF.

Re: Eternal Quest

Any thoughts so far?

Re: Eternal Quest

Former Starfire player.  These look facinating!

Re: Eternal Quest

I've come to the realisation that the Nohvarans have a potentially fatal weakness.

While designing the Nohvarans, I'd finished the human ships and wanted a different defensive weapon--hence, the Defender Array. However, because of the seeker rules dictating where ships can fire at seekers, they have to fire at short range...where their proximity trait means they themselves will be targeted.

This also has issues for the railgun and advanced railgun, too.

With that in mind, I've come up with a fix for the issue. As soon as I can, I'll be releasing an updated version of the Nohvarans, but for now, here's the fix:

The Nohvaran Defender Array is to become a dual-mode weapon.

At the moment, the Defender Array is Rng 3, BAS 1, Proximity, Pinpoint.
Mode 1 of the dual-mode Defender Array will be Rng 3, BAS .75, Proximity, Pinpoint. This mode will be the primary anti-fighter mode and can be used to target multiple fighter flights in different hexes.
Mode 2 will be Rng 3, BAS .855, Pinpoint. This mode is the primary anti-seeker mode.
I've calc'd that the SUs will remain the same, so there's no change to the ORat--only the weapons will change.

The railgun and advanced railgun will not change, partly because they're already dual-mode weapons, and partly (but mostly) because they're primarily an anti-fighter weapon.

However, this realisation has made me think of using flak guns (dual mode, one with Proximity and Pinpoint, one with Pinpoint) in one of my next settings.

EDIT: as Dan informed me my interpretation of the anti-seeker/proximity interaction was in error (namely, that range-3 batteries with proximity trait do not also hit their firing ship when engaging in anti-seeker fire at short range) the Nohvarans did not, in fact, need to be refitted with the new Defender Array.

Re: Eternal Quest

Updated Nohvarans with dual-mode Defender Array (as promised). It doesn't have Nohvaran ships that didn't have the Defender Array--this document is primarily for those that have downloaded the original zipped file and wish to have the revised Nohvarans without downloading the entire file (again)

Re: Eternal Quest

Version 1.03--both sections of the original in one file, with the updated Nohvaran Protectorate. It takes up 80 pages, and was done primarily to enable me to print it out and put it in one display book--it doesn't contain any new information.
