PM me, please.
Awesome i'll have to work on my BSG stats I did up for nova and convert them over
Unity edition sequence of play.
You are killing me with these previews, dude!
What do you want from me before you'll release the rulebook. You already have my soul.
What more do you want!
TELL MEEEEEE!
After witnessing a few MJ12 reveals over the year I can honestly say I don't think Dan can help it...He's just a natural born tease
You say the nicest things.
Almost there...
Here's another sample of a starship display; this time, from Ad Adstra Games' "Contact: 1939" setting.
Daniel,
I just popped on the forums to see what's happening, and saw that Starmada is getting a new version!
I am glad to see the return of Admiralty with some good bits of Nova. From what I can tell from the sample ship sheets, it seems like the concepts of shields and armor will be in Unity, right? I switched from Starfire and Full Thrust to Starmada X/Admiralty/Nova, so it's important to me that ships may be designed with combinations of shields and armor, then there are weapons that may negate shields or armor, making for some interesting battles.
I take it that Unity will have most if not all of these ideas or will I need to add a weapon ability or two that ignores shields/ignores armor?
David
There are weapon traits that reduce and/or ignore shields.
There are weapon traits that do extra damage, and therefore use up more screens ("armor").
However, at the moment there are no traits that bypass screens completely.
Actually, I tweaked my Admiralty and Nova ship builders to add the reduce/ignore screens ability. I do not recall how much I costed those abilities, but I thought it was close to the equivalent shield abilities. Once Unity is released I will probably make a guess and ask your opinion of the cost.
I guess I should have mentioned that a weapon that ignores shields and screens/armor is equivalent to a Starfire primary beam. That is why I am thinking along these lines.
Off the top of my head, I would give "Ignores Screens" a x3 multiplier.
Any word on a release date perhaps? You know? Because your money is burning a hole in my pocket.
Off the top of my head, I would give "Ignores Screens" a x3 multiplier.
That's pretty close to how it shakes out in Starfire. Lasers, available at TL1, ignore shields but not armour, and do 2 points at their most effective range. Primary beams ignore both shields and armour, but they only do one point of damage. The workhorse weapon at higher TLs is the force beam, which does 5 points at its best range, but shields and armour work just fine against them. So you've got a choice between the P beam doing just a tiny amount of damage, but punching through everything, versus the F beam doing five times as much, but having to batter down a SD's heavy shields before doing any internals.
(There's also the energy beam, which ignores armour, hull, and things that don't have power, and against which you can install "overload dampeners" which reduce its damage, but that tends to be special-purpose armament that gets installed on commerce raiders that want to capture freighters intact.)
+1 on the estimated release date (ballpark, of course).
If OldnGrey is listening, at least get an early copy of the Unity ship builder. I would not only like to add the "Ignores Armor/Screens" option, but also add the "ship display card pretty printer" that I added to my Nova ship builder.
I'm excited to announce that the Starmada Unity Rulebook will be available for PDF download and hard-copy preorders on Friday, April 14.
How very exciting! Totally looking forward to a new way to enjoy Starmada!

What is that?
I built a PDF base of hexes that I can move icons around on and use little scalable arrow icons with a variable number of pips to indicate speed. It's not a fancy or useful game playing system like Vassal, but it's pretty for my purposes, since I can spread ship record sheets out around the monitor or put them on a second monitor.
I got all excited by the announcement of Starmada Unity and pulled it out of storage to see if I could work out some of the kinks in it for use when Nova comes out. Still not sure if it'll be perfect, but just an indication of how much Starmada inspires loyalty and interest in people!
Any idea when it will be availaible and when those that have previous versions will get a copy? If I have to buy it new I will I just want it!!!
The rulebook should be out later today.
To clarify: the "free upgrade" offer applies only for the Star Fleet Armada books (Klingon Armada, Romulan Armada, etc.). If you want the full rulebook, you will have to buy it.
I have the romulan nova and the full nova. will that qualify? Will there be separate books like before or will it be one unity book?
Per ADB, anyone who has one of the Admiralty/Nova Star Fleet books will receive a free PDF of the Unity version of those books and/or be eligible for a hardcopy at a nominal fee ($5, I believe).
More details once those books are finished.
The book being released today is the 140pp. Unity Rulebook which has nothing to do with the SFU.
sounds good i'll pick it up regardless

Ahhhh! I went back and re-read the pertinent information from Captain's Log #52, and sure enough, my first read-through was merely wishful misreading.
With that in mind, will I be able to order the hard copy through the mj12 website like I did with Admiralty and Nova? And if I wanted print and a pdf, will that be an option?
Anyone who orders the hard copy before the end of April will get the PDF download for free.
