The Unity Rulebook is out, the first two Star Fleet Armada updates are nearing completion...

What do you want to see next?

The Imperial Starmada sourcebook, with all the ships for all five fleets. (Bonus points for a sixth fleet in that universe.)
VBAM stats added to the Shipyard, if they're not in there already.

I would like to see something that takes the deep space combat of Starmada and brings it to the orbital interface. Starmada: High Orbitals  smile  Include rules for ground defenses/facilities , orbiting bases and defensive satellites (I know these can be done now but thinking some non-ship specific improvements)  interface assaults (shuttles and other landing methods), pinpoint ortillery strikes, general planetary bombardment, ground-based ships/fighter launch & landing. You know, that kind of stuff. Maybe tie it in with a Quantum Legions or something along those lines.
Just my 2 cents,
Erik

Re: Now what?

Imperial Starmada.

Re: Now what?

I would like to see all of the supplemental books from the Admiralty Edition updated for Unity.

I loved them all. I want to see them seamlessly integrated into the new standard.

Re: Now what?

For me, personally, given I like designing ships, the expanded rules for things that are not (yet) in SUE. I'd like to see flotillas and maybe basing rules for them. And bases, too. I would also like to see Imperial Starmada, mainly to see the evolution of them from Compendium through to UE.

Re: Now what?

I'd like to see faction design rules/guidelines, either as a standalone thing or as part of as some campaign system.

Honestly, I wouldn't even know where to begin...

Oh, I can get it started, its just the finishing and balancing thing that I'll fail at  big_smile

Re: Now what?

I too would like to see Imperial Starmada released in Unity.
I wouldn't mind if it also included some logistics ships for each of the empires in the book, as well as a convoy raid scenario. (And *maybe*, "Historical" scenarios to show off some of the "past" conflicts.)

Starmada: High Orbitals might not be a bad idea either. I wouldn't mind some kind of Space Station rules, that's for sure.

Re: Now what?

I'd like to also see the Drydock updated with any new "stuff" that gets included in supplements, SFU included.

Re: Now what?

I'd like to see the Drydock work in OpenOffice and/or Numbers.

One of the issues with it - from some initial glances, is that it uses the "iferror" function. It doesn't exist in OO Calc. I've been working on trying to figure out if there is a functional workaround that will get it to work. But I've never done anything fancy in OO, so it's still a bit of a challenge.
I *thought* that it was working in Google Spreadsheet, but the drop down menus for weapons, equipment, and on the weapon tables - weapon traits, doesn't seem to want to *quite* work right.

I'd love to see flotillas and bases as well.

Re: Now what?

I have a couple of things.

1. I know you are going to cringe on this one (and you actually talk about it in the designer notes) are customized fighters with carrier holds.  Many Sci Fi shows have a lot in the small fighter range (Star Wars, Babylon 5, BSG) and the fighter variant section does help, but I feel there is room to expand.   With fighters having to deal with momentum, it is an easy way to model the BSG universe without adding a lot of additional ship cards.  Granted with the way seekers work, it might be easier to use those rules, make the seekers expendable and just have the seekers stay around until destroyed (hmm - might be on to something here)...

2. I agree with the source book for Imperial Starmada, but I'd like to up the ante and have ships designed and printed as well.  I'd back a kickstarter to FINALLY have a Majestic ship miniature.

In the end, I have about 8 fleet designs (Star Wars, BSG, Babylon 5, Star Frontiers - thankfully the Star Trek ones will be done for me)  that need to be finished and stats created.  This new edition has got me excited for that project again!

Any chance you would consider posting your BSG designs on this board?

Re: Now what?

I know in the past I've always wanted ships that were more or less maneuverable than the typical - but with the base Unity movement system I don't feel that way anymore.  All ships can accelerate to very high speeds, so really engine IS maneuverability.  Plus there are overboosters that let you pivot like a madman and boosters that let you do other crazy things.

I would love for there to be some way to have a ship with "command".  Would have to figure what that "means" in Starmada.  Things I can think of are allowing X number of dice to be rerolled OR let X ships redo their movement orders after everyone reveals their plots OR get to move X number of fighters/seekers go first in the fighter phase.  Anyway, not something "needed" but certainly would be fun given the number of genres that make reference to command ships.

Would love to see Flotillas too.  Would also like rules for things like heroic small ships - (e.g. Firefly, Millenium Falcon, Slave One).  I suppose you can just get a small ship and load it up with Stealth or Countermeasures, thus making it a waste of time to shoot at.

Re: Now what?

My vote is for a Openoffice version of DryDock.

After that if all previous ships published on this Forum could be converted ... By tomorrow would be good lol

(The last one is a joke by the way!!)

Re: Now what?

Don't mean to repeat myself, but what are the chances of getting all of the supplemental material from AE converted to Unity books?

Dreadnoughts, Imperial Armada, Hammer and Claw, etc...

As soon as I get a few for the new Nova system and finish them up, I will definitely post them.

Re: Now what?

Sounds great!  I would like to see what you have made.

Re: Now what?

Instead of a spreadsheet. I'd like to see a Drydock Program. I for one would be more then willing to pay for said program. Also I'd love to see rules for a "Wave Motion Gun" (Space Battleship Yamato) style weapon.

But, a Drydock Program is an almost must for me.

Re: Now what?

+1 vote for supplemental books from the Admiralty Edition updated for Unity.

I've seen several requests for an OpenOffice version of DryDock or some other Unity spreadsheet.  I created an OpenOffice version of Unity DryDock 1.03.  It does have a few upgrades that reflect my own campaign and house rules for my Babylon 5-ish campaign:

1. I changed fighters (per a previous thread) to be a less expensive since I sequence their combat AFTER ship combat.  So those little fighters must brave any escorts and anti-fighter defenses to take their shots...
2. Changed terminology "Screens" to "Armor"
3. Added weapon ability Penetrating -- like Piercing, but affects Armor
4. Ship Design Sheet generator: Another addition of my own is an SDS using the graphical parts in Paul's builder, but put together in one place that auto-fill with your design and where a copy-and-paste will create new PDFs on my Mac.  This technique also works for the plain text SDS too.
5. Changed Tech Levels supported to -3 to +3

Those are all the changes I can think of for now.  So given all that, if anyone is interested, I can upload what I have as-is, since it would take too long to rip out all my modifications to have a purely Unity builder per the rules.  If anyone has feedback or error reports, please do let me know.  I would be happy to fix them.

Re: Now what?

And for a purely off-Starmada-topic, I would like to see Grand Fleets done for WW2 -- surface ships, carriers, submarines and aircraft.  Maybe there is a supplement already in the works...???
