The demo rules link is live:

Excellent! I've been thinking of dusting off my starship minis, so this new edition is particularly well timed!
Quick question after looking over the demo rules: Am I missing something or does the example text on page 10 for the Engines and Weapons tracks not match the sample tracks shown?
Arrgh.
No, it's not you.
Aaaaannd...ordered
My initial thought after doing a quick scan through of the rulebook is this is exactly what I personally have wanted...A true fusion of the best parts of previous iterations with some tweaking here and there and a sprinkling of new things. I feel like Unity takesvan excellent step back to being more UNIVERSAL. I felt like Nova was tailored to SFU gameplay in some ways. For me, I spend far far FAR more time tinkering with ship design and conversion than actual gameplay and Unity looks like it will be more enjoyable for me in that respect.
I plan on spending the afternoon pretending to take pictures of my kid hunting for Easter eggs while really reading through the PDF rules on my phone. I'm sure my wife won't notice
Cheers,
Erik
PS Yay probes!

Take a couple of good shots and you might pull it off...
I saw this new edition as a 'sponsored link' on Facebook and I had to get a copy.
Congrats on the new edition! I'll need to update all my Star Fleet battles to the new edition as well (which has been talked about).

A question on seeking weapons. In the construction rules (why, that was the first thing I went to, why'd you ask? ) there's a bit that perplexes me. It reads: "In addition, seeking weapons apply a divisor...". Should that read modifier, b/c otherwise heavier weapons would be smaller than lighter weapons...(I haven't played around with the drydock yet, so maybe I'm missing something...)
EDIT: Okay, I tried it out with the drydock and it seems to be correct. I do the seeker weapon as a standard weapon then apply the divisor (at least that's what I get from the drydock). I must have been slightly tired when reading that because I only thought of the 'correct' meaning as an afterthought.
And I guess that with a dual-mode weapon, one mode with seeker, one without, you work out the CRat with the longer range (for example, a MA 8 seeker weapon and a RNG 12 standard weapon would base the ORat on the seeker weapon). That enables a Unity version of Eternal Quest to be done...:D
And, while I'm here, in a Multi-Weapon Mount which has Fire-Linked, would a successful to-hit roll mean all the weapons hit? I'm assuming so, and if so, that means I could use a single weapon to create larger versions of that weapon without doing a light/medium/heavy weapon (I'm particularly thinking about my current weapon obsession which is a beam cannon--the shield-cracker mode would have Fire-Linked while the sweeper mode would be normal)

The divisor is the square root of modifiers which have already been applied -- which means heavier/more powerful weapons will always be larger than less powerful ones, just not by as much. Basically, ROF is more valuable for seeking weapons than ACC/IMP/DMG.

Yes. The longer "range" value, which for seekers is 2xMA.
And, while I'm here, in a Multi-Weapon Mount which has Fire-Linked, would a successful to-hit roll mean all the weapons hit?
No. You make a single roll, and the number of hits (determined by the multi-weapon mount) is multiplied by the number of mounts firing.
Will there be a Bourbaki Basin for this edition, following prior precedent? I love seeing folks designs, especially the ones who create really coherent settings like MurtalianConfederacy.
The new book and tools look great, full of good ideas and inspiration.
Um, Dan... Did you accidentally kill all the old Bourbaki Basin folders?
Nope. Moved them to a new "Archived" section, under General.
The old Starmada stuff was getting too cluttered.

No. You make a single roll, and the number of hits (determined by the multi-weapon mount) is multiplied by the number of mounts firing.
Okay, that makes it slightly more difficult to do my heavy beam cannon, then...:)
Alas, it's just barely too large to be sent to my tablet, which has a 50 MB limit. Any chance of a "lite" version of the PDF, with a little bit (or a lot) of the art turned off?
I could break the document into two separate PDFs, which should help. However, you'll still need to download it as a single ZIP file, which will be close to 50MB.
Ordered my copy of the Unity book. Glad to see Starmada looking to re-unite the player base. And good to see my favorite system continuing to get the love it deserves.
Great Job, Dan.
I have split the ZIP download into four separate files: one for the cover (front/back), one for the rules, one for the ship designs, and one with the blank ship displays and B&W countersheet.
Also, corrected a couple of typos.
Great Job, Dan.
Thanks, KDL!

Brilliant! Thank you so much.
Thank you, Daniel. I ordered Unity from Wargame Vault.
After reading through the rules a couple of times I feel like Unity is more like Admiralty refined than my initial feeling that it was a blend of AE and Nova.
To me that's a good thing.
A couple of things were familiar enough that I had to re-read them a couple of time to appreciate the subtle changes that have made them more elegant. I had more than one "Aha" or light-bulb moment reading through things.
This release has got me to blow the dust off of a couple of projects that I started back in AE that never got off the ground quite the way I wanted in Nova.
Without having played a game yet I still feel like this is the best version of Starmada yet, drawing from the design lineage of its predecessors in all the right ways.
I don't usually say this to people who take my money for a product, but thanks Dan
Cheers,
Erik
Got an email regarding delivery. Does this mean we'll soon be getting the physical versions, or was it simply in relation to the release of the new zip file with four sections?
The page count of the pdf is 140 (Wargamevault). The table of contents (demo pdf) states 86 pages.
So what is the content of the other ~50 pages? SSDs for ex. ships?
