Topic: really silly n00b question

Hi--

Just got a copy of Starmada X.  Have to say, nice set of rules.  I have (so far) one question and I know it's a silly one but I don't want to go dashing down the wrong path from the 'get go.'

In the fire arcs diagram (section 4.1.2) the dividing lines are drawn right down the hex rows... does that mean that adjacent firing arcs overlap?

In other words do the A & B arcs overlap down the 'centerline' row of hexes in front of the ship?  I would assume that they do and it seems obvious but I've been burned by the obvious before.

In unrelated news: to Mr. Kast - this is easily one of the clearest, most typo and error free pieces of gaming writing I've read.  Kudos to whomever edited this.  While I realize that these qualities are not considered essential in this genre...

Yes.

Thanks!

Although I must say that this group, in its past and present incarnations, has been the most essential part of keeping the game clear and typo-free -- as you may already have noticed, they aren't shy about calling me out on misakes. wink

Just tryin' to help the game 'be all it can be'. smile

Wow - 11 minute response from the author himself.  That must be some kind of record!  Thank you!

Re: really silly n00b question

The 'Photons' line in the sig sounds familiar to me. Are you from the old Taldren SFC forums? If so, I think you'll like this game a lot.

SFB is a lot more detailed, but Starmada has an elegance to it that I find beats most other space tactical games I've tried (including my own home-baked rules). This becomes even more evident when you can realize you can manage fleet sized engagements in a reasonable amount of time. Large carrier fleets opposing each other is a nightmare in SFB, but fairly easy to handle in Starmada. And it does it without losing the Sci-Fi flavor and feel.

Have fun with it!

Uncle Joe--

Yes that's me.  I think not having to worry about energy allocation will be refreshing.  I never could find anyone in my area willing to learn/play SFB - I'm hoping for better luck with 'simpler and more elegant.'

Out of curiousity, where is your area? My group is in Northern Virginia.

Re: really silly n00b question

I'm in Western Connecticut.  VA's a bit of a hike, I'm afraid smile
