Topic: Using Overthrusters correctly

Hello everyone,
I want to make sure that we are using Overthrusters correctly.
We do movement without pre-plotting.  After the initiative roll, the low-roller moves a ship, or ships depending on how many ships each side has.  Both sides alternate moving ships, then fighters.
After all movement is completed, then ships with Overthrusters may pivot one hex-facing port or starboard.
Are we using Overthrusters correctly?

That is how Overthrusters worked in Admiralty. In the Unity edition, it was changed such that the engine requirement of a pivot (p.17) is reduced by -1.

Re: Using Overthrusters correctly

So a ship with overthrusters needs to use them right after it moves, when it's player decides weather to pivot.
Oh, we have been doing this wrong... yikes

Re: Using Overthrusters correctly

As I said, that was the rule in Admiralty. You can keep doing it that way and no one's going to break down your door and arrest you.

Yet. smile

<LOL>
I want to play the game as its designed and will pas this along to my gaming buddies.  We are playing this afternoon.
I noticed that if I take one of my designs with engine=4 with overthrusters, then delete the overthrusters and increase the engines to 5 that the cost comes down.
What is the advantage of Engine=4 + overthrusters versus just having Engine=5 ?

Overthrusters effectively widen your firing arcs without using any engine power.

...which was one of the things I spotted early on and thus gave DEFSATs in my only SUE supplement (to date) Overthrusters (3), thus giving them an effective 360 degree arc. Of course, if you make the turn wrong you might have some troubles, but I never try to design the ultimate warship, I try to design interesting ones...:D
