Topic: Solo Play

I want to play some solo games to learn the rules/strategy. The problem is I can't guarantee a long block of time and have cats/ferrets/kids who would mess any board setup I have.

I have tried Vassal but Vassal does not seem to be setup for custom ship and such. I may be wrong there but it seems I would have to remake the Vassal module every time i wanted to change my choices or my ships.

Any suggestions on way to play on a computer that won't take longer to setup than actual play time?

Thanks.

Re: Solo Play

If you have access to Microsoft Publisher, it can act as a workaround solution.  Create the interlocking hexes, then bind them together so they make one background image, and you can move the ships around as images.  On a seperate page in the same documents you can store the ship record sheets as text boxes.  It's a little clunky, but can work.

Re: Solo Play

Do you play Starmada SFU or the standard version?

Re: Solo Play

I recall something called CyberBoard. I think it was used for PBEM, but if I remember (it's been a while) I think it could be used as a substitute board.

Re: Solo Play

Thanks for the suggestions. I forgot about Cyberboard. Don't have publisher but there may be a LibreOffice alternative to try.
I'ld be happy something that has a  hexmap and allows me to move chits/counters around with facing.
