Topic: [OT] Star Wreck

if you haven't seen it yet, you may want to check out the free fan flick Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning. it's a parody film with surprisingly good SFX made by some Finnish fans of Star Trek and Babylon 5 and it's freakin' hilarious. plus it makes me want to fight a Trek vs. B5 Starmada battle. smile

Re: [OT] Star Wreck

As it's free for dowload I too urge everyone to give it a try. Then again I would, being a Finn wink

Having said that, I must add I didn't personally enjoy SW:ItP quite as much as many others. Even the Finnish mainstream media (as opposed to scifi fans only) was all over it. I admit it's a great fan film with fantastic effects, a tour-de-force of devotion to the subject, and a great example of positive type Finnish insanity (think "sending the show heavy rocker Lordi to the Eurovision song contest" kind of insanity). But it's still only a fan film with all the faults that come with it (bad acting, easy laughs, ultimately boring plot...).

So, A+ for effort. For the result... Not so much.

Re: [OT] Star Wreck

Saw this over a month ago, it's ....interesting... but won't win any awards.
:-)
The ships were pretty amazing, but the acting and makeup was a bit sub-par.
Was that big guy supposed to be a Klingon? Was that guy that spouted numbers with the silver skin supposed to be a Data-clone?

Fan flic, all I saw was the 500meg+ movie - was that the whole thing?

Watching with sub-titles was distracting, but it seemed - unfinished.

Re: [OT] Star Wreck

I wasn't asking much when I went in to watch it (with all your comments in my mind), but it wasn't a bad little movie.  I'm amazed at what they used to produce it.  Think about some of the big budget films and how this one compares visually.  You right, the acting is okay and the plot not much better than okay, but you gotta admit for a film made with a bluescreen studio in their house and computer software/hardware we all can buy, it's impressive.  I hope they are making a killing selling stuff from the store.  I know that the brothers of homestar runner do....

PS.  When is someone here going to make it into a starmada scenario?

Re: [OT] Star Wreck

My expectations were modest, and the film met them.
I was glad I watched it.
There were a few times I actually laughed out loud (1), and the effects were pretty reasonable - better than some B grade Hollywood stuff.

I was impressed, overall. The end let me down... but that's OK. Worth a watch.

(1) The scene of the security guard pointing the malfunctioning rifle at his face to look down the barrel was hilarious.

Well, the Finnish insanity (still) seems to be on the upswing. Of the serious kind.
