Topic: Print and fold counters

What scale are ships as depicted on the counters?

I'd do the math, but I'm more lateral, less logical.

Lateral? You mean literal?

I'm not sure exactly, but I think there's a range given in the first book, based on the number of hull points. I'd post it, but I don't have the books here - if it's not there, post Dan Kast. You might also compare the hull points to the size of the counters, there is a methodology. If it's not in the book, it must have been a post from Dan during develepment.

I had a sort of mental picture in mind when I did the models, figured they were more or less the same size as surface ships - on the latest batch, I figured the big round windows were like the one in the Nautilus in the Disney movie....

Re: Print and fold counters

No, mike, he means lateral, as in lateral thinking, moving to the side a lot rather than taking things one step at a time.

What book is that from?  The description with matchsticks was cool, I thought.

The size of the counters is the size of he ship

Tiny ones are for tiny ships, gigantic ones are for gigantic ships.

Re: Print and fold counters

Trying again,

What scale are the ships as depicted on the counters?

Measuring, say, the Tai Zhou, since it's in front of me, I get 1.125 inches.

Looking in the book, I see the Tai Zhou is 482' or 5784" long.

I divide 5784 by 1.125 I get, I think, 1/5150 scale.

I grab another counter, the Hodaka.

Length as depicted on counter: 1.5"

Length of actual ship: 544' or 6528"

Divide 6528 by 1.5 gets 1/4350 scale.

So, now, I am left with two possible answers:

1) my math is wrong and the ships as depicted in the counters are the same scale, whatever scale that is, or

2) the ships as depicted on the counters are not the same scale.

Please enlighten me.

Re: Print and fold counters

I don't believe the ships are printed to scale on the counters...but more to fit on a counter representing the ship along the lines of size class, unlike the metal miniatures.

Re: Print and fold counters

The counters themselves should be to scale to the hull sizes they're meant to represent.  Not the actual image. IE large scale counters are so long, medium scale counters are so long, and etc.

Re: Print and fold counters

Ah ha, thank you!

My insomnia ends

Re: Print and fold counters

The ships are not to any particular scale. The pictures on the counters are sized to fit the counter, which is of a varying size depending upon the hull size.
