Topic: [OT] Battle of the Five Armies?

So I had heard that this game was coming out, then nothing...

But a trip to the Specialist Games website shows that it has been out for some time now. Is it in the US? If not, anyone in the UK willing to track down a rulebook that I can buy/trade for?

Re: [OT] Battle of the Five Armies?

This is out... has been for quite a while. Since before Christmas (I thought) in the US and UK... Been lots of discussion at TMP if you do a search.

Initially it was $50-55 USD and then there was a price adjustment up to the $80 range from GW USA.

Re: [OT] Battle of the Five Armies?

Nothing like encouragement to the market NOT to buy a product, eh? :?

Re: [OT] Battle of the Five Armies?

I thought about picking it up, but it looks like GW released it and dropped it.

I can find no mention of the game apart from the original release in White Dwarf.

From the write up at the GW online store site, it looks like it's supposed to have additional armies available...

$50 for a game that GW isn't supporting isn't my idea of fun.

Let's hope I'm wrong.

Re: [OT] Battle of the Five Armies?

Wasn't it a limited release thing?
That probably explains why it is hard to find now.

They were kind of stuck, because it was something they could have run with for large armies for Helm's Deep or Minas Tirith... but that would eat into their 28mm market.

Re: [OT] Battle of the Five Armies?

I read somewhere that it was bad management that caused the downfall of BoFA.  They also scrapped the line cause it wasn't making money.

I'd rather use For the Masses anyway.

I might need more heroscape terrain though!

Re: [OT] Battle of the Five Armies?

Being a big fan of Warmaster, I'd still like to track down a rulebook for completeness' sake... little help?

Now Jim... I can be a fan of Warmaster and of FtM. Just like I'm sure there are Starmada players who still enjoy seeing what other starship combat games are up to (although I have to wonder why they bother... big_smile )

And yes, I've checked the Fanatic site. They only sell the box set. I just want a rulebook.

Re: [OT] Battle of the Five Armies?

Hey Jim, if you're up to it, maybe you could do an ARES "Battle of the Five Armies" supplement. I know you did some other conversions.

ARES is just SCREAMING for something like this. It needs a 'world' to operate in (you know, like Warhamster?). Generic supplements are cool, but the ka-ching is in the world books and army lists.

I've got some ideas I could send you - a map, anyway. Maybe a world sort of like the one in Arduin.

ARES has *buttloads* of potential.
