Topic: More random noob questions

Ive read through the book (bits of it more than once while I scratched my head) and now its time to start asking stupid questions.

Stupid question the first - is there a limit on distance between member of a squad (what some games may call "coherance") ?

(i'll keep any more stupid questions i have on this thread to avoid spamage).

Re: More random noob questions

No, unless you are using Techno Fantasy genre modifications (pg. 120).

Re: More random noob questions

Thanks (more as I think of them...it may take some time).

Note the rules about units overlapping each other, though.  While you can spread out as much as you want, it may limit your movement later on.

Re: More random noob questions

Also note that part of the super flexibility of Elite units is the ability to violate friendly unit perimeters without restriction.

Re: More random noob questions

Furthermore, the "ignore and be ignored" rule -- in regards to unit permiters -- also applies to vehicle units.

This thread is becoming a good demonstration as to why I seldom answer anything except the explicit question asked tongue

Re: More random noob questions

Embedding something in a larger conversation helps me remember it. that's one of the reasons I jump on every opportunity to discuss the Defiance rules; I get very few opportunities to play ANYTHING let alone my favourite scifi skirmish. Yakking helps me think, ya know.

Re: More random noob questions

I've been doodling with the army builder trying to sort out bits of my old GW stuff (I know I know but I already own it so I might as well use it  ) and I'm having a bit of trouble with Tau XV8 Crisis suits.
The problem I have is what to class them as.

As a Size 3 infantry they seem to work okay but I run into problems with them having so many options available and being able to fire more than 1 weapon (making them size 3 anime mecha would be pretty expensive).

I was thinking of making them AdHoc and, if I wanted to get them to fire more than one weapon, making a weapon frame that kind combines the effect of both guns firing into 1 shot. Its a bit wierd and should work but any other sugestions would be greatly appreciated....

Re: More random noob questions

I think they are a bit large to be Size 3. So I would definitely consider making them anime mecha, Size 4. They'd be expensive, sure, but harder to kill as well (as opponents normally aren't likely to bring too many AV weapons to the fight). Doesn't solve the weapon problem entirely as IIRC Crisis suits can take three weapon systems, but helps that too.

Re: More random noob questions

I thought Size 3 would be about right going by the line in the rules about size 3 being about the volume of a compact car.

Being a Vehicle would deffinatly fix the weapons issue but would it make it too tough and costly for an XV8? I suppose this is were experiance with the system might help me out more eh.
The way I see them working is quite fast and light (deffinatly a jump capable frame) but easily within the realms of pretty standard weapons given some concentrated fire.

Re: More random noob questions

Hi LV,

A 6J, AR +2 anime mecha frame with a DC of 2 is only 100 PV, so that might be the best compromise.  Also, in the new supplemental rules that will be published in the Winter or Spring, I've laxed the restrictions on vehicles, such that you can now make them size 1, 2 or 3.

Making the frame a vehicle frame with a +2 AR means that it will still be fairly good at surviving shots from AI weapons (except at close range), but will be very vulnerable to AV weaponry and also to mid-range vehicle-piercing weaponry.

Any opertunity to plug a new product eh  lol.

Thats for the advice I'll get scouring the tables......

I'm planning on posting any rule modifications as a free download for folks who already bought the rulebook, since they will become "official".
