Topic: Qs about Defiance / want to buy

Hi all.

I'm interested in getting back into the 28/25mm and/or 15mm scale. I've downloaded the free rules and I'm about to read them.

I was wondering if Defiance worked well in the 15mm scale. (I wouldn't see why not)

Also, I perused the boards and I understand that there is some sort of Excel (or other) file that can be used to stat models and build "armies", much like the SXCA for Starmada. Is that so?

Thanks!

Re: Qs about Defiance / want to buy

Defiance is explicitly designed to work in both 15mm and 28mm scale. Obviously any ruleset written for 28mm will work with 15mm in a pinch but with D:VG this is written in the rules themselves. Pretty early on in the free portion IIRC.

The basic rules won't work quite smoothly with multiple models per base/stand tho if that's what you are considering. There are some genre modifications in the full rules that give guidelines as to how to go about that.

Last I heard there is a sort of prototype Excell tool that helps with force construction but it doesn't do all the work from A to Z (so to get the forces right you'll want to get the full rules -- as you should do anyway ). It's not publicly available AFAIK so you'll basically need to wait until somebody official-like notices your "blight".

Re: Qs about Defiance / want to buy

As I understand it the rules were pretty extensively tested in 15MM; and I hear using the 15MM measurements with 28MM models saves a lot of space smile

Re: Qs about Defiance / want to buy

Hi Cartman,

Welcome!

In my opinion, the scale of Defiance actually works best in 15mm, even though its "default" state is 25mm.  The conversion between the two scales is simple, however.

If you PM me, I can send you the beta version of the excel customizer, which, as has been pointed out, is a bit inaccurate for certain point values.

Re: Qs about Defiance / want to buy

Thank you all for you replies. Next paycheck I get I will probably download the full rules. I yet have to go through the free ones but I know I can't go wrong with Defiance. Someone lent me his copy of Stargrunt and while it is advertised as a 25mm game, it also seems to work best in 15mm.

Demian, thank you for your offer. I will send you a PM later on once I go through the rules, as I won't understand much if I don't even have a basic grasp of what's going on  tongue

Speaking of 28/25mm vs 15mm, I'm hesitating. On one hand the 28/25mm scale has much more sci-fi model ranges, yet you have more flexibility at the 15mm scale. But in 15 mm scale I only know of GZG and Brigade Models making models. Suggestions?

Re: Qs about Defiance / want to buy

Well, GZG would be your best bet I assume. They have losts of good stuff and seem to have shifted their focus towards 15mm lately so more should be coming out.

Some other sources I found:

[*]Old Crow doesn't do infantry but they have plenty fine vehicles, buildings & stuff: http://www.oldcrowmodels.co.uk/ocproducts.htm[*]MJ Figures does "Wh40k in 15mm scale": http://dragonshoard.co.uk/mjFigures/15mm/sifi/sifi.htm[*]Not sure how live they are, but 15mm.co.uk lists two 15mm scifi lines: http://www.15mm.co.uk/index.htm[*]Eureka has Scifi German Stormtroopers -- maybe suitable for Defiance Reich Jaegers?

I think Peter Pig have some 15mm scifi troopers.

Also, DLD productions, if they ever get back into production, do 15MM vehicles. I wouldn't plan on being able to get them before the middle of next year. While Mr DLD is apparently very talented and produces kits of reputedly superlative quality, he is also pretty damn hopelessly organised:

Finally, some of the reaper CAVs, whilst actually 10MM scale, might make for good 15mm heavy powered suits.
