Topic: Starship Disks

Hi Dan!

I asked this question a long time ago, and I cannot recall the answer, so I thought I would ask again: Is there any chance of getting you to release the STARSHIP DISKS line in 1" disks, as opposed to the current 1.5" disks?

I ask because I have ha great game table that I built that is perminantly covered with two black, vinyl, 1"-hex mats. We used to use the table for B5Wars using Fleet-Action scale minis. But since I got out of B5Wars (in favor of the obviously superior Starmada system!) I have no minis any longer. And in some ways, I actually prefer the disks.

But they are too big for my hexes right now.

So... what are the odds I can get some STARSHIP DISKS in 1" size?

Re: Starship Disks

Darn.

Is this a technical block (the process makes this difficult in 1" size, etc.), or a logistical one (no demand for such a size, etc.)?

Re: Starship Disks

Have you tried making your own disks?

I decided a while ago that the floorboards would not stand up to the weight of any more miniatures so changed over to counters where possible.

Best to keep the counters above 355x350 pixels (changing to 500x500 which look good printed at 1" or 1.5"). Keep the counters that you make as .bmp (.jpg files loose a bit of detail each time they are worked on and saved).

Printed on "Scratchproof" photographic card and fixed to thicker card of 1.5mm thickness, although this could be as thick as needed. Some black marker pen around the edge to finish off.

Counters (or Disks) are also handy if anyone does not have room for a table. Add magnetic strip under them and put a magnetic white board on the wall. Also works for 1/6000 model ships, Naval not Space.

The only drawback is finding or making the artwork. But almost anything is possible without having to wait for a model, See attached file.

Re: Starship Disks

Hey, cool counters....

I've been known to occasionally dabble, might use these as the basis for some 'other races'.

Very cool work.

Re: Starship Disks

Looks like I am going to have to find a way to do this on my own.

I found a company that makes 1" round labels for laser/inkjet work. I have 1" round wooden disks I purchased from a craft store...

...now all I need are some good graphics I can work with and keep at (say) 500x500 or so to print onto these sheets...

Re: Starship Disks

As and when you get the graphics figured out, would you mind posting a basic template for the rest of us to use?

All too easy...

Re: Starship Disks

The above template seems to be for A Call to Arms counters. I always put acta in the counter title to show this.
I must admit I usually make my counters FT style and keep a Starmada template which can then be laid over it as a new layer. Then rub out the center revealing the ship graphic below before merging them together.

Anyhow here is a Starmada template, Use fill in a paint prog to change the Blue to any colour you wish.

ps If you are using 1" counters, they look best if the ship graphic is at about 300 pixels on it's longest dimension.
