We say "All y'all" 'round here
So? Here we say 'all of you'. We like to use all of the letters of the alphabet so they don't feel underused...
Ah but we are not from around here, Jim
We invented the language we speak it proper like.
To answer your earlier question Mike.
Sure I can help out.
Really it Chris Duke (not Drake) whose the mecha (as in big ass stompy things) fan. He just kept on at me to do some.
Prefer starships. But still I wanted to do some PA suits at some point.
I am quite busy with some other project at the moment. So don't expet oodles of stuff, as we say around here.

Well, technically, it's a germanic language.....
But I digress...

Great!

Sorry, I do get mental blocks about certain names.
No hurry that I'm aware of. I'm sure you and Chris would be valuable additions to the crew.
FWIW, we conspirators over on Facebook are still in discussions. I've posted another ship:

Not REAL crazy about it, but it's a completed excercise.
..and I've suggested we use a yahoo group to post files specific to the project. If we decide to create a Yahoo group, I'll post a link here for interested contributors. And let me empasis the term 'contributors' - we're not starting out this enterprise with profit in mind.
If it's THAT popular, then we'll open discussions with all accepted contributors to wrangle that out - but expenses will be paid first.
I don't expect to make anything off this, but won't refuse cash shovelled at us.
I'd like to get a general 'historical' outline in place, so that's another thing we're discussing.
If you've got something that can't be posted here, feel free to post it via email to me:
thedugan@yahoo.com
..and make sure that 'Big Wanking Art Project' is prominently displayed in the title, I get a LOT of junk mail at that address.

I could be wrong, but Old English is derived from the Anglo-Saxon, and that/they came from Germany. Modern English has taken a lot of words from French, but also from many other languages.
We're democratic in our use of words from other languages...:D
English is primarily a germanic language, but with a generous helping of Latin/French dumped in. And many other words have migrated to us from other nations--ketchup is from Malaysia(?)

The structure is Germanic. But the Norman Conquest added a lot of French vocabulary...
So, English is both!

Wow, this thread is certainly going down an etymological bunny trail...

The following has always been one of my favorites on the proclivity of borrowed words in English.
"[English doesn't] just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary."
-- James Nicoll, variously paraphrased

We have a 'Cheese' section, perhaps we need a 'Snack foods' section......
