This is great but still doesn't tell me that the ORAT of teleporters is now 10; the "area effect" modifier is now x2.0; "doubled ranged modifiers" modifier is now x1.0; and the "piercing" modifier is now x1.4.
I love the direction that Starmada has taken. Its just that all of the rules and options are spread over many supplements now and the little changes are getting hard to keep track of. :?
Actually piercing started as x1.5, was changed to x1.4 in revision 1 and now Quote Dan:
"Honestly, I don't know why the numbers 0.7 and 1.4 came about in the first place.
These numbers are as correct as I can make them:
Piercing +3 = 2.0
Piercing +2 = 1.8
Piercing +1 = 1.5
Non-Piercing -1 = 0.8
Non-Piercing -2 = 0.6
Non-Piercing -3 = 0.5
Daniel Kast "
From the Starmada:Iron Stars questions thread. Back to x1.5

Looking to add Stations and off-shoots to the shipyard for VBAM.
Do stations still add x1.5 to the SU available per hull?
Defence rating x1.8 before additions?
50% extra hull boxes on data card? Although this does seem a bit much in AE. Max at 30?

So, how about bigger counters for the rest of us?
They do look nice (although a bit "spring Loaded").
Paul
I'll second that. Math to log in

With Babylon 5 coming up for grabs, wonder who is going to get it?

One of the basics of life is good crew and good command outweights better tech. At least I hope that it still counts. You can see the example of the "Flying Tigers" in china. Rommel in north Africa. Etc.
I think that maybe re-rolls or better marines would be a good way to portrate better crew and command.
You might like to take a look at VBAM: Stars Divided terran civil war, which has suggestions for Officer and Fleet abilities, both VBAM and Starmada. I think this gives a good basis, although it may prove to be a bit too expanded.

I take it that the Warpulis was in Iron Stars: Southern Front? (The only book I did not get.)
Thanks for some great designs (I suspect that they may not always keep the stats given in Starmada Iron Stars.)
Paul
It is a pity that the Soviet ship on the cover was not included in the data cards, looks like a converted Svarog the other way up & extra bits added.
Paul
Looking at the great pictures of the ships, I have to ask why the light guns have ACE of BDF arcs even if they are way out on the bow where ABCD arcs would be expected?
Paul
I dare say any tri-finned ship is going to look like the Excailbur a bit.
Lets face it, since the beginning of space fiction (just look at astounding stories and the like), ships have been just about every shape from a sphere to a cube, from smooth to a flying junkpile, from the size of a pencil to a small moon.
Every ship will look a bit like a ship from somewhen
Paul
Not Arf!
Very, Very nice.
Could we PLEASE have these as table top counters when you render overhead views (but bigger than for PBEM)?
Paul
I had visions of the "boarding mines" as crab like, when a ship hits them they sprout legs. Then scuttle about over the surface of the ship. Extra hull damage?
Anyhow in case someone did not notice, I posted the updated shipyard in the files. Please multiply the boarding pod check offs by the number of pods in the flights. If this is correct I suspect Dan may have bought shares in a company making D6's
Sorry no Mimes, yet!
Paul
Another book, more very nice ships, more tents?.
Why no regular top down counters? There must be enough ships to warrant a pdf of ship counters by now.
If not actual counters, top views of the ships of at least 300 pixels at their widest dimension.

japridemor wrote:Well, I've noticed a little error that crops up in the CORE Shipbuilder from the MJ12 website. specifically in the way that Weapon TL affects ORat calculations of Battery X,Y and Z in cells G20, G26 and G32 of version 2.2. If all of the TLs are set at 0 and a ship is designed, when you change the weapon TL to say +1 or -1, the ORat of the design changes. This shouldn't happen. This is happening due to the weapon TL mods being nested in multiple Round functions in cells J19, J25 and J31 and then being unapplied in Cells G20, G26 and G32, throwing the rounding off.
I haven't used the Shipyard programs to see if they are duplicating this rounding error.
Guilty, in an effort to get the two spreadsheets to give the same results I made this sort of mistake in the shipyard. Since your post I have been through the shipyard and made corrections. Had to add a bit since they have to account for dual mode weapons as well. Will be in version 27. Thank you for spotting it.

Page 20. Mines. Boarding mine factor?
Now that would give people nightmares! A mine that crawls in through the airlock or any other opening before going off.
Just need clarification with regards the Boarding pods on page 20 and the shipyard will be done (I hope). It often happens that it takes another pair of eyes to spot mistakes.
I have also added another page to the "How to" pdf guide. I will upload both ASAP.
Paul
At the risk of talking with my mouth full of pages????
Critical Damage track on page 19 has one bullet missing.
Effects of Critical Damage, page 20.
Boarding Pods. Roll for each remaining boarding pod? That could be a whole lot of pods!
Paul
Thanks.
And the max rating per facit?
Paul
Small difference to Piercing (+1) and Non-piercing (-1) mods.
Piercing (SAE Rev 1.0) mod change to 1.4 (as in official sxca), Piercing +1 given as 1.5
Non Piercing mod = 0.7 (as in official sxca), Non-Piercing -1 given as 0.8
Very little difference I know, change to new figures?
Paul
The Faceted Shielding, states that the sum of the facet ratings cannot exceed 25, that's ok I've put that in, but no mention is made with regards to a maximum rating for a facet.
Might I make a suggestion, whilst making any changes.
On page 11 Anti-fighter batteries, you could expand upon "roll one die against a target". Anyone reading for the first time would ask, Is it a flight or each fighter in a flight that is rolled against as a target?
Paul
A question.
I will be revising the shipyard in light of Starmada Iron Stars, which has critical damage.
Does anyone want the damage chart in version 26 kept as an alternative, in addition to the official one?
Especially for VBAM.
Paul
Bet you just knew it would be me eh?
Have not read it through yet but here goes as I am up to page 8.
Teleporters (per) ORAT +20?
They were changed to +10 in revision 1 of the SAE
Have they gone back up or is this a result of cut and paste?
Paul
Found this site.
Check out the xls file, could give a good comparison start.

What about using Page Plus from Serif?
Not very expensive ( a whole lot cheaper than the biggies), cheaper still since older versions can be found for free.
Dead easy, even I can use it (see Anteatman and Octopodian booklets). Export as pdf for professional printing or web download. Been using it for a while.
Sound like an advert
Take a look:www.serif.com
Paul
By always having a version that will open the file no matter what Open Office or Microsoft dream up next.
Plus it can then taken from computer to computer (if virus checked on a regular basis) without having to install it each time.
Just thought it might be an idea.
