Paul,

I really like what you did with the ship card!  It is making me think of ways to have a template where I can drop in the ship image of my choice, like B5 ships, etc with the tools I have on an iMac.

That's right.  The B5Wars pulse weapons could hit multiple systems, if they could get through the armor.  The laser could hit one system, but the extra damage gave it a better chance of getting past the armor and could not be intercepted except for a shield/absorber (Vorlon/Shadow).

As someone also indicated, the pulse weapon was deadly for fighters, but could not track fighters as well as interceptors.

[I playtested B5W v1, v2 and several supplements and still have all the rules.]

Excellent!  I am wanting to start another B5 mini-campaign, and convert more of the not-so-used races.

Definitely the first option for the cover art.

Any update on the release date for the new edition of Starmada???

I always preferred that fighters move after ships (because of better maneuverability and speed), but fire AFTER ships.  That means fighters must survive ship defensive fire before attacking ships.  This seemed to always work well in our games and encouraged players to have CAP and escorts for capital ships.  As far as cost, we slightly decreased the fighter point cost.

Has anyone else tried this?  What were your results?

I bought mine last week.

As for the shipbuilder, what exactly are you missing from the current one?

Care to share your reasons?

Oh, please do not misunderstand.  I'm not implying that the game is broken, etc.  This is merely my preference.

I chose this turn re-ordering/design on the basis of a ship-centric emphasis that ships would be able to out-range/out-target fighter platforms.  In this perspective, ships have the initiative.  Fighters become more of an expendable asset.  Thus, fighters must endure the fire of enemy ships and fighters to deliver their ordinance.  The side-effect of this change makes fighter CAP and anti-fighter escorts more valuable in protecting ships.

For the above change for my game, what is a reasonable value for the basic SU (obviously cheaper)?

I would suggest reducing the final SU cost of your fighters by 20% and seeing how that works.

I will try that out.  Thanks for the shipyard help, Paul.

Thanks a bunch.

For various effect/philosophy reasons, I changed the turn sequence to the following:

   Ship Movement
   Fighter Movement
   Ship-vs-Ship/Fighter Combat
   Fighter-vs-Fighter Combat
   Fighter-vs-Ship Combat

Of course this makes fighters more likely to perish, since they must outlast the fire of ships and defending fighters.  From what I can tell from page 56 of S:AE, the basic SU of a fighter flight is 183.  For the above change for my game, what is a reasonable value for the basic SU (obviously cheaper)?

Where is the cell I need to change in the Shipyard?  Maybe Small Craft sheet, cell M66?

Thanks

Updated Again! v1.3 posted.

See Dan's Oops in the Admiralty shipbuilder thread.

Changes made to Teleporters and Boarding Pods.

Can I have a rest now?

A BIG Thank You for updating the spreadsheet so fast for SAE!  I also appreciate the 5 weapon banks for B5 players.  I had a bit of trouble getting the control sheet looking right with 5 weapons.

A few more questions about Admiralty:

a. Any changes to fighters, especially vs ships?

b. Easily accommodate more than 3 weapon types (for us B5 players)?

c. Ship builder spreadsheet update -- especially for more than 3 weapon types?

Thanks!  This is already on my wish list.

Got it, Paul.  Thanks!   It was getting tough deciding which B5W weapons should fit in the three battery slots.

May I have the Babylon 5 version with Five weapon types?  That would greatly simplify my B5 conversions.  Thanks!

Additionally, ships with high velocities cannot "turn on a dime".  Now captains must consider their maneuvers a little bit more -- "Do I slow down for a tighter turn or make a wider turn now".  This definitely affects tactics for getting or keeping weapons in arc and ship designs.

And another for FT cinematic movement.

Got 'em.  Thanks!

I'll start looking over your material and compare it to what I've already started.

They're up for free on the MJ12games yahoo group. I haven't finished them, unfortunately. Completely lost track of where I was. I think the project is in 'dormant' mode ever since the major contributor to the whole thing lost internet access.

Would that be under the Starmada or StarmadaX file directory?  What is the name of the file (so I get the correct one), since there are a few conversions?  Thanks!

I just bought Starmada primarily to play B5 fleets.  I own several fleets of the AOG Fleet Action minis B5W rules (v1 & v2) and many supplements & playtested several products for the old AOG.

I started looking through your material and it looks good, but I noticed that my designs diverged a bit.  If you don't mind a Starmada noob, I would be glad to colaborate efforts with you.

In the meantime I'm slowly progressing through the EA, my first conversion, then comparing with yours -- just to see what our different visions are.

I've just gotten into Starmada primarily for a B5 universe.  I have several fleets of the old AOG Fleet Action miniatures that I'm working on.  I own and playtested B5W v1 and several supplements, B5W v2, but not the Compendium.

I would be interested in seeing this great conversion work, so I don't have to re-do it.  Who owns it now?  Is it posted on a web site?
