I don't. But KDLadage did say he could customise the SX Shipyard spreadsheet to help us with the construction process...

Simply.

Standard electronic warfare suites come in two types--ECM and EWS. ECM makes targetting by other ships harder, while EWS makes targetting by your own ship easier. There are some advanced items as well (cloak, anyone?)

Yes, thats a good idea. And a good place for other universes conversions as well. If anyone is interested...?

A question:

Are security teams and marines affected by TL? In KDLadage's Fleet Designer it says no, but for ages I've designed them as being affected by TL. Am I wrong (just saying in case...:D)

That would be a good idea...:D

Anyone else out there who'd like to see the conversion finished?

Yep, I'll be willing to help test it...:D

I've set up a new group on Yahoo! if anyone is interested. Its purpose at the moment is to host any Starmada X files (ships, fleets, that sort of thing). If you think its a crap idea, just say so and I'll delete the group.

As you may know, Jerry was running the B5 conversion from the B5W system to Starmada X. However, as there has been no sight of him since his last email to me, Im going to ask if there is anyone who would like to help get the conversion back up and running.

Obviously, ownership of at least the following rulebooks would be essential:

Starmada X or Starmada X: Brigade
Babylon 5 Wars 2nd Edition Rules Compendium
Babylon 5 Wars 2nd Edition Ships of the Fleet

Any of the other supplements of Babylon 5 Wars, especially the Showdowns books and the League supplements, would be greatly appreciated.

So far, the Cascor, Centauri, EA, Narn, Hurr and Minbari have been completed. I am in the start/middle of converting both the Grome and the Gaim, although anyone can take them over if you so wish.

John

How about this:

Bad Karma

A lone vessel has been seen prowling near the trade lanes that feed our empire/commonwealth/whatever. A squadron of ships are sent to investigate--a couple of battlecruisers and other small fry. However, when they see the craft, they realise Intelligence has screwed up again--the vessel, far from being a lone cruiser, is a space control ship, a vessel that combines the functions of both dreadnought and fleet carrier into a deadly predator. And your squadron has just sailed straight into the guns of one. Talk about bad karma.

Scenario:

Two players both get 2500 points. However, one player (the raider) MUST spend all their points on one vessel and accompanying fighters. No escorts other than fighters are allowed. Also, the vessel must have a powerful primary battery to justify its position in the line of battle. So it must either have:

a) a spinal mount
b) a weapon with a range longer than 12
c) a weapon with a special modifier over 1.5 (i.e., re-rolls penetration, halves shields, extra crew casualties etc)
d) enough drones for three full salvoes (i.e., at least 30 drones)

The other player may have two vessels with a cost exceeding 500 points but not exceeding 1000 points.

The fight can take place in an open map or a map with a large number of asteroids.

Same here.

Come on, I hadn't even used the internet until about 4-5 years ago. And I didn't know about Starmada until two years ago.

You just let everyone know what the Nimitz class supercarrier is REALLY powered by. Its not nuclear power at all, its loads of little nano-hamsters turning thousands of microwheels very very fast!

I thought so at one time, but I "get" the offsides rule now...

And I am a big fan o' the footy (go Liverpool!) but for the first time in a long time October baseball is meaningful on the south side of Chicago -- history says we won't win the World Series, but we should at least play the way we did to get this far...

*sigh*

Back to gaming, I guess...

Hehe.

Offside rule is easy for me to understand--helps if you think slightly differently from everyone else...:D

Anyway, England played like a proper football team last night. If only we could get a solid core of really good centre-backs, then we wouldn't let sloppy goals in.

Did anyone watch the game last night? The formation, for once, was spot on, and Wright-Philips, Joe Cole and Rooney were running rings around the poor Poles...:D

Nope.

Okay, in Starmada X you design weapons that fit onto a vessel. Range, accuracy, damage and special modifiers. The first three are pretty obvious. Special modifiers are modifications to a weapon that more accurately meets what you think such a weapon should look like. For example, if you wanted a weapon that killed a lot of crew, you would use the option "Extra Crew Casualties". If, however, you wanted a weapon that fires more rapidly at short range than at long range, you would use the option "Range-Based Rate of Fire".

"Ignores PDS" is a special modifier, and thus modifies the space unit requirement of such a weapon. Thus if a weapon was 24 SUs in size, but you wanted it to ignore PDS, the weapons new SU cost would be 48.

Is that reasonably clear?

1,095

(9 replies, posted in Starmada)

That was an option for vessels in the Babylon 5 universe--a conversion, if you will. PDS in the standard games cannot be ignored. But in B5 conversions, Starmada X lists the value as between 1.6 and 2

Hi all.

In some of my universes I use the concept of the Ordnance Cell Array. Essentially, its a way of customising a missile loadout so that the enemy never knows what you've got. You could fire heavy anti-ship weapons or anti-fighter, or a combination of the two.

Now, how can you factor that in to a Starmada-X game? Could you have various 'weapons' that you can fit in to the vessel? Variants? Or is there some other way to do it?

I essentially see mines as static devices, or devices with limited manoeuvrability. Having a launch range of 10 seems a little...extreme.
