I remember ADB did a Campaign Designer's Handbook for SFB a few years back.  It included different tech trees (phasers, bigger ships, photons, drones etc) with each race having stuff on the various weapon trees that they had already developed (so the Feds got some proximity photons, the Kzinit got the first drone speed increase etc).
You could adapt this, depending on how complex you want to get, so you research gradually longer ranged weapons, higher impact, more accurate etc with weapon traits being offshoots of these.  You could then have another tree for fighters/strikers/seekers (maybe you have to "invent" seekers before you can develop strikers), another for engine size, and another for ship size.
That would allow one race to put their research into small fast ships with short range but high impact/damage weapons, while another goes for big slow ships with long ranged but low-power guns and carrier capacity.

One of the shipyeard programs has an attack boat option.  It allocates 25% of the SU of the carried ship as space required by the tender.

Can I mention that the Eagle firing the plasma torp looks decidedly lop-sided even taking into account perspective?  It is almost straight on to the viewer and one wing is nearly twice the size of the other.

If you are going to design your own ships then the Rules Annex has the rules from the various supplements, but if you are after collections of competing Empires then go for one of the sourcebooks (I suggest Hammer and Claw).

I have just copied a ship sheet from the Iron Stars rulebook into a word document without any problems other than the formatting being all over the place (and I'm at work so I am using programs at least 5-6 years out of date).

If the PDF copy and paste can be done by different security settings then you may as well just put in a couple of extra pages of Drake notation and put the price up by $1 (or whatever the extra hosting & work costs) and maybe have a "secret code" in the hard copy that the purchasor can email in and get the Drake notation in exchange.

We have been using the mapboards from the Federation Commander box sets.  They work well for Iron Stars and Klingon Armada (unsurprisingly!).

If we were to use large ship models (such as the Babylon 5 or Ground Zero Games ones) then we would need to find something with much larger hexes.

I have seen trays from the likes of Figures in Comfort that have a foam layer with circular holes for the bases and then the ships then rest on the top of the foam.

No idea how well they work.

Does this trait also give you the benefit of Anti-Fighter or do you have to buy it seperately?

Klingon Armada doesn't say but it would be rather strange to have a weapon that can only target fighters but takes a penalty for doing so.

Oops, the ranges should be 2/4/6 for that weapon.

The EMP batteries are a pirate weapon designed to knock out a ship's drives and weapons while leaving it intact for plundering.

Maybe the best way is to think of them as dual mode weapons:
Mode 1 only works on fighters and works like a normal weapon
Mode 2 only works on starships and gives you a chance to move them around.

Given that most UK games shops use Esdevium Games as their distributor and EG can easily source other ADB products I would have thought that they could get hold of the main rulebook and Klingon Armada.

If Klingon Armada is going to be a print only product it would be nice to know when/if it will be available in the UK.

Next, the Sa'Vasku.

These were rather difficult to do as the use a power allocation system and can change it each turn (so they could move very fast and only fire some weapons one turn, and the next raise shields, fire all their weapons, but have a low speed).  I have gone for something of a middle ground.
