Well, it seems as though there's a clear need for some additional (minor) additions to the rules, but people clearly want to see more background material and ships...

Should we have another contest, like we did for Brigade, or what?

Depends...whose ships are you/we going to stat this time?  I think you finished all the Brigade ones already, didn't you?  Well, maybe not the Iron Stars ones...or does Tony have another big batch in the works?  smile

If you can get Jon Tuffley to play in your sandbox, I call dibs on translating Phalons to Starmada.  I may need the "area effect" weapon extra, though...

This all reminds me... nowhere in the rules does it explicitly say that you can have redundant systems; yet I see no reason to disallow them.

Should we write an official rule to address this?

Probably ought to, the next time you do a new edition.  Clarify which systems have stackable effects and which just serve as backups.

On a related note, I'd love to see all those pieces of special equipment split into two categories, say "Equipment" and "Upgrades", with "Equipment" being all the stuff that counts toward (and is lost from) Q hits, and "Upgrades" being everything else (for ex, Armor Plating).  Making a formal division would save a lot of confusion.

Get in bed with more minis manufacturers and do more books like Brigade X, maybe?  I'd bet even Ground Zero Games might be willing to consider such a thing...he makes all his real money off figures, not rules, and having his models statted out for Starmada would only help those sales, while "official" Starmada fleet books for the Full Thrust ranges would probably sell pretty darn well for MJ12.  Other companies that might be worth talking to about that sort of thing include Holistic, Monday Knight Productions, Valiant, and maybe even Amarillo Design.

My two cents.  Of course I'm assuming that the Brigade X thing was a win-win product for both companies...right Dan?

On a vaguely related note, does anyone else find that Damage Control unbalances the game in favor of larger ships?  We've tried using it a few times and found that big ships essentially shrug off non-hull damage with little difficulty, at least until they've been badly shot up.  It's not totally game-breaking, but it is noticeable, especially with sever size disparities...strikeboats versus superdreads, that sort of thing.

Unbalanced in the sense you mean, no.  But I do wish there was a spell effect for countering magic.  Something that could be used both as an active instantaneous counterspell, and for removing spells already in place.

For experience, you could just have kills/treasure/whatever earn you straight points to improve a model's stats.  Probably want some sort of sliding scale so that the tougher you get, the tougher the opposition becomes.

For weapons...well, what *can't* you simulate with appropriate traits?  Or do you mean it's hard to have one model with many different weapon choices available...the infamous "fighter with a weapon caddy henchman" type?

So, still want those Kryomek figs?

They seem all right to me in most cases, although they might be a bit too cheap on a relatively featureless table, or against "pure" close combat armies.  Haven't playtested either, though, so that's just a gut feeling.

tnjrp might have a point about effector costs, though.  Cone + B is some awful nasty synergy.

I would put more emphasis on the Army Customizer and its versatility, and make it clear that you can use any minis you own to play the game.  The ability to play a smart set of rules with minis from a stupid game was a big selling point for me.  Gamers like adaptable rules sets.

"Walls of Eryx" if this site:

Honest to goodness, it really is only $5 US to ship to Australia.  I don't know how they do it, but I suspect it may explain that -1 income the Post Office has in Steve Jackson's Illuminati game.  They say it should be 4-6 business days, although I don't know if that's to your door or just to the point of entry.

Anyway, if you decide you want 'em, let me know your email and I'll send you a PayPal payment request...assuming you use PayPal.

The good is you can do what you want. You can pick and choose whatever figures, vehicles, etc from whatever range you like, to make the army you want. That's why I used to love GZG's Dirtside (note to MJ12 - how about some rules for that scale based on Defiance)

Wombat, it's not Defiance-based, but take a look at the Assault Corps board down in the Working Groups section of the forum.  Someday...but will it come before I've sold off all my Epic stuff?  smile

Well, I'll wish you good luck with it, but I'm afraid you may need it.  Too many ugly minis in the existing range for my tastes, and the rules need more than just a tweaking.  Still, there does seem to be a lot of demand for (or at least interest in) the game online, so maybe that's just me.  A good set of "Celtic fantasy" rules and minis on the market would be nice, and heaven knows the Alternative Armies stuff isn't filling the niche very well.  Although I do like some of their Formorians, especially the shrimp with the giant rock/obelisk tied to his back.  Not exactly new, though...got to be twenty years old by now.

Well, I'm not sure I believe it, but my local post office swears it should only be $5.00 for Global Priority Mail, which should only take 4-6 days to arrive.  I'm going to double check at another branch later, that seems impossibly cheap, especially allowing for the weight involved.

What would it cost you to ship to Australia?

You may have a deal here. Cool. I'll let you know if the end of month budget squeeze will cause problems (I get paid monthly).

I'll check shipping rates and let you know.  No rush on buying them, they've been laying around for years...

Found 'em at last.  Looks like I have:

four Warriors with Bio-Acid Jets, from pack code KKO-003
two Warriors with Twin Molecule Blades, KK0-005
one Warmaster with Cleaver and Plasmid Duster, KK0-007
one Warmaster with Corroder Lance, KKO-009, missing the right arm, which holds the lance from above
three Alpha Hellions, KKO-010

You can see the manufacturer photos and prices at http://www.kryomek.com/kryomek.asp

I'd be willing to let the lot go for $32 and shipping, as I've had them for years and never really used them.  They're all loose bare metal from before the great pewter switchover.  If you haven't seen them in person, the Warriors about an inch and a half tall, the Warmasters slightly bigger and bulkier, and the "little" Hellions would be about 9-10 feet long in 28mm scale if they were stretched out straight, which they aren't.  The Warmaster with the missing arm is probably fixable, maybe by adding a tendril limb or just doing a stump and having him carry the lance one-handed.  Failing that, it's not a bad source of parts.  smile

Smoking Wreckage has first dibs, followed by Tyranid Farmer (we grow on trees?  no wonder there are so many of us!), so if either of you want 'em let me know.  I do take PayPal these days...

Well, #2 if you're willing to do it, for the same reasons FlakMagnet cites.  Not sure there's much money in it for you, though.

But I'd still like to see that price list, if it's not too much bother.

Okee doke, I'll fish 'em out of the storage shed the next time I go by...I don't remember having a ton of them, but I may be wrong.  Somebody asked me about Clan Wars figs the other day and I almost gave myself a hernia moving them out to the car.  Where do I get all this stuff???

More xenos. One day I'll own some of these.

They're nice looking figs, very detailed, but handicapped by an atrocious "home" rules system...not that that matters for Defiance, thankfully.  I've got some of these in storage I wouldn't mind parting with.  Want me to dig them out and give you a price list?

Could be worse, I've been playing it wrong since...forever?  Always did sweeps first before weapon fire/detonations.  Never even noticed the problem...
