Cool! I'll test the file later this week.

Does anyone have experience printing something like this on non-US printers? I assume it's a standard US paper format, but it comes in at half an inch longer than A3 format and seems like it'll be a major hassle to print on a non-US office printer.

Very nice AAR, thanks for posting!

while I like the mechanic of defensive drones, I don't think it's worth it very often. If I fire my drones offensively they will pretty much under all circumstances do more harm than they prevent when used defensively.

Why sacrifice 4 drones to kill (on average) 1.33 enemy drones? The numbers just don't add up.

I saw the pilot (I think) of one of the spinoffs, the one with the most idiotic weapon control system ever dreamed up by man/minbari. Who makes a weapons control system that physically exhausts the operator and where the performance of the system is suddenly dependent on the physical fitness/speed of the weapons officer? Pretty dumb IMO. There was just too much stuff that didn't make sense in that show. I didn't watch any more episodes despite REALLY liking the original 5 seasons of Bab5.

I play Klingon Armada and the ship cards have that information printed on them, with boxes to check off as damage is taken.

what do power absorbers do in SFB?

It's not really mentioned in the rules, but how would you guys handle a ship with faceted getting hit by a mine or asteroid field? Specifically the problem is determining which facet is hit. I can see arguments for anything from a random facet (roll a d6) or even the opponent's choice/weakest.

I feel random makes sense for "dumb" mines and cinematic asteroid fields and weakest facet makes sense for "smart" mines, so I suppose it depends on the setting/feel you're trying to create.

From a game balancing point of view perhaps random would be most fair, since smart mines would probably be better than what you're paying points for.

So how would you guys handle this?

"...Yes, the values are "wrong", and yes, it's frustrating to those of you trying to recreate the ships on your own -- ..."

This wasn't an admission that I fudged any CR values -- it was related to an error I made when computing the ships for Klingon Armada.

So the points values in KA are wrong and the ones calculated with f.ex OldnGrey's shipbuilder are correct?

I don't think there's a reason for starting to fudge. Using the calculators available in the "files" section of this forum I get points values very close to those in KA when I type in the ships. The combat values are only off by a few points, hardly anything that would upset the balance of the game (5-6 points deviation on a 300 point ship is not really a problem at all)

I agree that it seems "off" that the fast ships aren't actually faster or in some way more maneuverable than the regular ships.

Would it be possible to get alternate versions (with an added point engine rating) for the fast ships? ADB has already shown a willingness to put updated ship cards on their site.

If I remember correctly the international shipping prices at the ADB site are wrong (too high) and will be corrected before the package is shipped to you. I suggest you contact ADB and ask about the actual shipping costs to NZ.

What are people's experiences with hex size and ADB models? I've not bought a hex mat yet, but I have a feeling 1.5" will be too small for these ships. Looking at the klingon C8 dreadnought I have a hard time picturing this and a similar sized model placed in neighboring hexes... perhaps even problematic using 2" hexes

Got my copy today, very happy.  Unfortunately my wife has a paper to write.  Don't think I can wait that long to match a CA against a D7.

Looking forward to Romulan Armada so I have an excuse to buy some of the NCA, NCL, and Romulan minis.

Actually you already have an excuse to buy some NCL -> http://www.starfleetgames.com/documents/CL40_Starmada_Cards.pdf

I've only played a few games of Starmada so far, but I've come up with this battery design that I'd like to run by you guys and see what you think. The idea is a Star Wars type ion cannon for disabling shields and systems but not causing any hull damage:
standard sized gun:
"Ion Cannon" 3/6/9 , 1/4+/1/3, No Hull Damage, Continuing Damage, Ignores Shields

Large sized gun:
"Large Ion Cannon" 4/8/12 , 1/4+/1/5, No Hull Damage, Continuing Damage, Ignores Shields

I've only tried these a few times, but they're absolutely brutal and don't take up much space at all (31 ad 63 SUs respectively) considering the carnage when you hit with them.

Ok now for a question that's a bit more specific. I now have the SAE core rules book and plan on getting the Klingon Armada book also. Will there be an update to the Options Appendix file on the site? Right now it doesn't include the Klingon Armada book, and I want to decide whether or not to get the Annex book. Or said in a different way. What's in the Annex book that isn't in Klingon Armada and SAE combined?

How about the mini campaign scenarios, what miniatures would be needed to run the mini campaign?

Has anyone played this enough to be able to give recommendations concerning what to get first?

I'm looking at ADB's squadron boxes #1 and #2. That'll give me:
Federation:
1x FF
1x Old CL
1x CA
1x BC
1x DN

Klingons:
1xF5
2xD6/D7
1xC7
1xC8

Will this give me enough for it to stay interesting for a while? Are those two forces roughly equivalent in points totals? Would you consider these forces tiny, small, average, big, etc given the rule system?

Getting ADB minis in Denmark will cost me quite a bit, so I want to get a selection that will serve me well from the start.

So what exactly does the book contain?

I've been trying to decide whether or not to buy this book, but I haven't really been able to get a good idea what's in it. From what I understand the book contains:
- core rules (the same as the core rules in the Starmada AE book , and the free demo download)
- optional rules relevant to the star trek universe (are all of these in other Starmada AE books or are there new previously unpublished ones?)
- mini campaign (previously unpublished)
- ship stats (previously unpublished)
- fluff text

did I miss anything?
