The turns posted by MadSeason are very useful to anyone who has not used vassel for pbm.
More so than a battle report, as it is easier to learn if you can see an actual turn unfold step by step.
Ok, I am a fan of visual teaching/learning, a picture paints a thousand words and all that.

Okay, the next round has been partially fought. Some quick maneuvering by the Arcturans have given them another shot with one of their very effective big guns (They keep hitting!!!! What lucky bullsh*t!). Of course, as you shall see, the lucky hit dice have resulted in severe damage to the Terran systems but hardly any damage to the actual HULL. :x
I have posted both the Terran move and the Arcturan move and fire. We await the Terran response, which likely will be pretty devastating.

Hello.
I've some difficulties to understand how vassal works. I downloaded vassal, but I don't know how to open your files.
Marc
Did you download and install Vassal? Then you need to download the Starmada module for Vassal and run it at least once (if Vassal is installed, just double-click on it). The files I have posted here are zipped because the forum requires that, so you will need to unzip the turn files. Once unzipped, you can double-click on them and they will open Vassal and the Starmada module and allow you to watch the turn.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks a lot!
I tried to open your file via vassal, and in fact, I should have done the opposite, as you said.
For info, I just bought Starmada and Klingon armada some days ago, and I feel it's one of the best space opera game I ever seen. I have played Starfire, SFB and FC, Babylon 5 wars and ACTA, and some others and this one looks like excellent.
Marc
Let me know if you would like to try a quick game via Vassal. I am always eager to expand the pool of players using Vassal to play this game.
I'd like to.
But I never played starmada and I'm uneasy with vassal. Let me look at the files first, but I appreciate your proposal.

Yes yes! More people play against MadSeason so that he becomes distracted and makes critical mistakes against me!!!
Of course, we must be cautious to not pile on so many opponents that he begins to fall behind in completing his turns!
I don't want to have to resort to the pointed stick, but I only do as I must...

Perhaps it would be good to create a sort of "VASSAL league", it exists for some games (I play ASL by this way).
What do you think about it ?
Like the idea of a league. However, I'm always short of time - how long does it take to setup, do a turn etc? And you can do it "postal" style? Do you need to be logged on same time?

The first time I read "Vassal league" my brain jumped to "Vasaleeg", and I found myself contemplating a certain petroleum jelly product...
I don't think I get enough sleep...

The nice thing about Vassal is that it can be played live online or PbEM. I actually really like the PbEM method. Setup can be done "offline" when you have time and there is nothing to prevent you from doing it in several steps as time permits, and actually turns of Starmada can be handled much faster I have found on the computer than on the tabletop. One warning; using fighters can slow the progress of the game to a crawl if both sides employ them and the players can only manage to get on and shoot out one "action" a day.
In the "largest" games I have played since the module became available, the longest individual time I have sat at the computer to run out an action (firing definitely takes the longest if there are lots of guns/special abilities in play) is probably about 1 hour, with the average times varying from 5 minutes (for some simple things) to 1/2 hour. Against MadSeason, he typically sends his actions/orders in the late afternoon and I do my turns/actions in the late evening or early morning (although the early morning turns often suffer from a lack of clear thinking  ). All in all, as a result of the Starmada mod for Vassal, I have played far more games of Starmada than I ever would have been able to live, both in trouble getting together with opponents and having sufficient available time to enjoy the game.
Hope this helps answer your questions.
Erik
Thanks a lot for that - very clear!

Ended my game with madseason, someone else xwants to play with me ?
I'm up for another, if you like. Sorry I haven't gotten back to you. My email is flaking the past couple of days.
Hi, everyone! New member here. I'd love to get into this VASSAL gaming, since it would make it so much easier to find games. Any thoughts on how to get myself familiar with it? I downloaded the Starmada module guide, but it doesn't go into much detail.
Yes i'm ok to play by vassal another time. do you think we can play direct , i'm GMT+1
Hi, Zeropoint!
Let me know if you and Brazouck aren't able to play. I would be happy to introduce anyone to playing via Vassal -- it would have to be a small game, one to three ships per side.
Brazouck will give you a good fight!
Kevin
