Re: Discuss The Drydock!

I look forward to this game coming online soon

It is online. You can go buy it right now. tongue

I was unsure hot to add any Special Equipment such as Fire Control

Type "Fire Control" in the box. Each piece of equipment should go on a new line (spaces might work too, but I did new line).

The weapon traits are the abbreviations comma separated. They're in the rulebook.

Re: Discuss The Drydock!

Is there some easy way I'm not thinking of to reverse-engineer designs in the rulebook?

I'm not sure how to convert

FF6,FP4,FS4,AP6,AS6 into the values I need to enter into drydock.

Re: Discuss The Drydock!

It's not exact, but you can assume the largest modifier represents 1 weapon, and extrapolate from there, since every +2 doubles the number of weapons. (A +1 modifier is roughly x1.4)

For example, with banks of [FF5][FP4][FS4][AP5][AP5][AA7], the "AA7" can be assumed to represent a single weapon. The "5" arcs would thus be 2 weapons each, while the "4" arcs would be 3 weapons each. This gives a total of 13 weapons.

Then, take the first number of attack dice, divide by the number of weapons, and use the result as the BAS. Thus, if the above battery starts with 10 attack dice, the BAS would be 0.77 (10 / 13).

Re: Discuss The Drydock!

Cool. I managed to create it successfully.

I don't know if you wrote the drydock or if you have someone else doing it, but I have a request.

Would it be possible to add the data on the main drydock page like ORAT for the individual weapons, total ORAT, DRAT, etc onto the print page as global javascript variables? I'm writing a userscript to do some customized SSDs on the print page, and it'd be nice if I didn't have to recalculate that stuff from the information on display.

I need to determine if a weapon bank is "small" "medium" or "large", and was going to use the ORAT of the weapons to sort them into the arbitrary groups.

Here's what I have so far:

Re: Discuss The Drydock!

I've noticed the carriers don't seem to work right on the drydock. Adding carrier space has some weird randomy costing. You also can't seem to specify traits for a certain number of fighters, so you can't design carrier that holds intercepters and bombers (for example).

Can you give an example? It seems to work properly for me.

Re: Discuss The Drydock!

Hmmm... I can not.

I reloaded the carrier it was happening on, and it isn't doing it now.

I'll try to figure out what caused it next time it happens.

Re: Discuss The Drydock!

The one thing I haven't done yet (but need to do) is allow for drone traits, and possibly a second set of fighter traits, so you can have two different types of fighter on a single carrier.

Re: Discuss The Drydock!

Yeah that'd be good.

Also, Escort seems to be free.

While you're tweaking things please please add more of the ship buildings variables (ORAT, Size, etc.) to the print page. It's hard to work backwards from the final values. They can be in JS variables or just hidden table cells. Doesn't matter really.

How does this help you, exactly?

Re: Discuss The Drydock!

Well it helps for rules tinkering. Like, I could add a modifier to hit based on ship size if I wanted to. As-is, there's no way to tell the size of a ship on the print page.

Re: Discuss The Drydock!

I guess I meant storing them as session variables...

Re: Discuss The Drydock!

I don't really know what you've got going on in the background to know if my request is hard or easy. sad

Re: Discuss The Drydock!

The request is easy (the session variables are there already). It's how you retrieve them...

Re: Discuss The Drydock!

Are you using PHP? just printing a script tag with var data_size = blah stuff in it would work. You could also just print one variable if your data is in object form using json_encode.

Re: Discuss The Drydock!

Actually, I'm still not understanding how the session variables help you. Maybe you should send me an email with details of what you need.

Re: Discuss The Drydock!

The Drydock is working well for me; Love it!   8-)
I have made several versions of my standard types of ships.  Unfortunately, I have older versions of my ships cluttering up the /database/_sandbox/.  How do I delete these older ones to keep me from getting mixed up and to not clutter the 'sandbox?

Detailed instructions for the Drydock are forthcoming.

However, any designs you save without "signing in" will be stored in the sandbox; further, designs in the sandbox cannot be deleted/overwritten. I plan to clear out the sandbox regularly -- any designs more than a month old are subject to deletion.

If you want to be able to store designs in perpetuity, you have to sign in. Once you do that, designs are stored in your personal folder, can be deleted, and can be overwritten with new versions.

Re: Discuss The Drydock!

Dan,

Can you add the customized firing arcs to the drydock?  I want to do a "swivel mount" type torp launcher that is HJIK.

"PS" arc added, equivalent to custom "HIJK" arc.

I PM'ed. Don't know your email.

Re: Discuss The Drydock!

Is there an arc that is the same as CD in SAE?  When I make a USS Texas, the center Heavy Gun turret has that arc.  Thanks.

Not at present but I was just wondering this afternoon how long it would be before someone asked.
For some strange reason I was thinking of Dreadnoughts.
CD? (Cross Deck)
If Dan gives the OK I'll add it to shipyard with PS.

Re: Discuss The Drydock!

<LOL>  Thanks Paul.
I also used the "CD" arc for torpedoes carried by smaller DDs.
