:?: This may sound like a silly question, but exactly how do I add Drones (or fighters) to a design?  I want to design some DDGs and am unsure how to add either of these to a ship design.

We don't use fighters, but I believe in the Starship Systems area you add "Carrier: (X)" if you're using fighters (where X is the number of flights you want), and "Drone: (X)" if you want drones (again where X is the number of drones you want). If you add fighters, you can then add any fighter traits in the "Fighter Traits" box.

For examples, check out some of the other users in the database.

Thanks.  Here is my first CV design, done on the DryDock.  Fighters seem very inexpensive.  Did I do this right?

You are right, it seems... cheap. So, many fighters for less than 200 seems bizarre.
I tried the same design and ended with the same result. Bizarre, yes.

With an SU requirement of 812 they should contribute 4060 to the ORAT.

Hate to burst your bubble, just entered the details you give in shipyard (Yeah I know, not the Drydock). Unless there have been changes since the rules version 1.1:
Design is 300SU overweight.
CRAT comes out at 1170.

Makes sence that this CV should cost more.  I wonder why the DryDock program under-pointed this so much.
Any ideas on what to do now with respect to designing a CV?

Bit of a mystery, even if the drydock is using older figures for the ORAT I would have expected the figure to have been higher (even though ORAT for Carrier increased from SUx3 to SUx5).
I would expect to see CVs having fewer flights right across the board as they really increase the CRAT.
Weak and slow ships having more flights than faster armored ones obviously.
I think you will have to ask yourself "do I need or can my fleet afford 25 flights?"

Can I affort them?  Hmmm  I guess it depends on how much this CV, or one with fewer flights, costs. :?:

I went back onto the DryDock and build a slightly reduced version of the CVs of the Yorktown class:

I noticed that when I added Fst,Str,Tgh, the cost dropped to 170.  And the number of extra spaces increased from 5 to over 800<LOL>, so I deleted the three fighter traits . 
I can use this version of this CV.  The cost seems more reasonable.  But I would like to reduce the number of flights to 15 or 16 and add in those three traits for the fighters.

:arrow: I guess there is something still amiss with the designer program & fighters, and probably drones.  Not a problem. 
I would like to play this CV on Saturday with fighters having these three abilities, if possible.  Could a skilled person calculate how many of these 3-ability flights would fit on this ship with the same cost/SUs as 20 standard flights?  I am guessing 13 to 15.  I could print out the design and correct the number of flights with whiteout and make any other adjustments/corrections.  I am not sure how to make this adjustment by hand.  If there is not a way to do this, I can play this USS Hornet with 20 standard flights of fighters.  I want to give my friends a suprise..."Tora,Tora,Tora"...<LOL>

Is there a reason that you cannot use shipyard nova? It works with most spreadsheet progs.

I cannot figure out the problem. The Drydock works fine when applying a single trait, but goes all wonky when applying two or more.

<LOL>  Good point.  I redesigned the CV Hornet and added strong to its fighters.  The cost went up and I added one more hull to add the space needed.  I plan to play it tomorrow when my friends and I game.
Will let everyone know how the battle works.  The DNs have been redone also.  And I made DDGs with six drones.

I was looking thru the rules and noticed that all of the ships there had Hyperdrive.  I forgot to add it to any ships I made.  (Whoops) :!:   The Federation and Klingon type ships I made do not have it either.  I will use the ships I have made so far, then add hyperdrive to them after the con.  My friend who has begun designing his ships forgets it also...

Hello Everyone,
Rapier2012 gaming con is going well.  I had a new player who loved the game and will probably order it.   8-)

I noticed that there have been upgrades to the DryDock.  It indicates on the ship SSD how many weapons are in a bank.  I have a Queen Elizabeth class DN made similiarly to the Modernized WW2 version of that British BB.  The naval ship had eight 15" guns and I wanted my starship version to have 12 attack dice for the entire main battery.  So I changed the BAS to 1.5 and presto, the sheet says 8 x 15 Inch Turbo-Laser Cannon with 12 dice in the first column.  Awesome!

Something that perplexes me a little in another ship design.  My Arkansas design has FX2,FX2,FX2,CD2,CD2,CD2,AX2,AX2 for its 12 Inch Turbo Lasers.  I changed the BAS to .75 to give 9 dice in the first column to make the firepower protortional to the larger QE DNs.  The design gives this for this battery:
    12× 12 Inch Turbo-Laser Cannon (Rpt) [FX5][FX5][CD5][CD5][AX5][AX5]   6-12-18;   12 8 6 4 3 2 2 1 1 1 0 0
In theory, if I fire the six banks/turrets at different targets, the battery will yeild 12 dice total two each on six targets.  But, if I concentrate on one target in the CD arc, I will only have 9 attack dice.  It was not my intention to get 12 attack dice for the SUs& cost of a 9 dice attack weapon.  Did I do anything wrong?  Is this legal?
(should I take two aspirins & call/write in the morning<LOL>)

So from what I understand you have 6 weapon banks that at a (-5) arc modifier, thus doing 2 dice each (before other modifiers).  I don't see where you are getting 9 dice from.  Each bank will do 2 dice, so 2 banks start at 4 dice modiefied by the other factors (ecm, range, etc).
