Topic: Klingon/Romulan Armada - Nova Editions

If someone is willing to glance over the ship displays for the Nova versions of Klingon and Romulan Armada, please send me an email. I need to make sure the number of weapons, drones, marines, etc. are all correct.

Re: Klingon/Romulan Armada - Nova Editions

So how close are we to seeing either Klingon Armada: Nova or Romulan Armada: Nova or both?  big_smile

Re: Klingon/Romulan Armada - Nova Editions

Will Phasers 1, 2 and 4 have the Pinpoint trait in Nova, since they are not penalized in SFB for firing at drones?   It's missing from the Admiral's Edition version.

Re: Klingon/Romulan Armada - Nova Editions

If it is a straight port of the SAE ships per the NE rulebook. Then no.

But the real question in my mind is what is the -1 penally suppose to represent. If it is the small target modifier then this should stay as is. If it is the penally most heavy weapons have against drones then it should get PinPoint.  My guess is that it represents neither and is just how the Starmada system is. Now, why Phaser-3s would get it (and why they have Anti-Fighter in SAE) would be because of the purpose of the Phaser-3s which is purely defensive.

Yes.

More to the point, it increases the defensive purpose of Ph-3. In FC, Ph-3 are defensive weapons not because they are better against fighters and drones than other phasers. In fact, they are less good than other phasers (not on a energy basis, though). A ph-3 may miss a drone at range 1 where a Ph-1. But a Ph-3 costs half the Ph-1 power and whatever, you usually use Ph-3 at very close range.
But, with opportunity, many Ph-3, or better, some Ph-G, may inflict heavy damage on enemy ships at point blank range. I remember a game of SFB where a Fed DD with 4 Ph-G (it was special rules from our scenario) destroyed a D6 at range 1, firing two turns in a row...

Yes.

Problem is, some FC ships dispense with Phaser-3s, since Phaser-1/2s are their defensive weapons.  Say the Federation New Fast Cruiser, Armed Cutter, Tholian Patrol Corvette or Orion Slaver  You might want to fudge some Ph-3s onto them.

Re: Klingon/Romulan Armada - Nova Editions

Daniel,
Are the Nova Editions available? The reason I am asking is that in the catalog I see the following for both entries which seems to infer that the ones available for download are the Nova Editions:

"Although ownership of the Starmada Nova Rulebook from Majestic Twelve Games is strongly recommended, it is not required: the essential Starmada rules are included!"

Re: Klingon/Romulan Armada - Nova Editions

I find myself in need of one or two folks to check over the ship displays for the Nova versions of Alien and Distant Armadas. Any takers?
