Topic: The results of not enough sleep...

A few days ago, I (re)discovered the rules for a board game I found out about around 10 or so years ago, but subsequently lost and forgot about. I refer, of course, to the board game Ploy.

This morning, after not enough sleep, I was thinking about attempting an original SNE setting (rather than conversions) and the idea of a Ploy-based SNE 'setting' was born.

Here is the preliminary work so far. Comments and suggestions are welcome, especially regarding the movement rates. I'm thinking a thrust rating of 3 per Ploy space. I'm also thinking defences would be non-existant, and weapons to be very powerful--having Catastrophic or Triple Damage, but short-ranged...

Ploy-based Starmada: Nova Edition setting

Shields: one-pronged piece, only moves one space. Unique in being able to carry out both a rotation and lateral movement in the same turn.

Represented by a single TT weapon (to indicate the ability to move and rotate at the same time)

Probes: two-pronged pieces, can move up to two spaces

Three types:

One with two prongs next to each other, covering 45 degrees. Represented by two weapons in the FF arc.

One with two prongs seperated by 90 degrees. Represented by two weapons, one in the FP, one in the FS arc.

One with the prongs opposite each other (straight line, IOW). Represented by two weapons, one in the FF arc, one in the AA arc.

Lances: three-pronged pieces, can move up to three spaces

Three types:

One with three prongs next to each other, covering 90 degrees. Represented by three weapons, one in the FF arc, one in the FP arc, one in the FS arc.

One with three prongs, one central, the other two 90 degrees apart from the central prong (resembling an upside-down capital T). Represented by three weapons, one in the FF arc, one in the PP arc, one in the SS arc.

One with three prongs, two 90 degrees apart (as in the second Probe) with one 135 degrees from both (resembling a capital Y). Represented by three weapons, one in the FP arc, one in the FS arc, one in the AA arc.

Commander: four-pronged piece, can only move one space. Four prongs arranged in a cross or x. Represented by four weapons, one in the FP arc, one in the FS arc, one in the AP arc, one in the AS arc.

Number of pieces in game of Ploy (2-player)

Shields: 3

Probes: 2 of the first two types, 1 of the third type.

Lances: 2 of each type

Commander: 1 only

Ask and ye shall receive...:)

There is also a two page PDF of the rules of Ploy on the boardgamegeek website, but I'm not sure where exactly...
