There are many counters to be found on the Internet which could be used with SAE although not specifically designed for that function.  This includes nice sets of B5 and STNG counters.

Do you use campaign rules with these settings and if so what do you use?

I've gotta save SOMETHING for the rulebook, right? smile

You could resolve this by simply releasing the book this week as a wonderful Christmas surprise!

I'd vote for an initiative system myself.  But going with one and providing an option for the other, either way, seems like a good route to go.

Thanks!

I've heard of Corel, but not coreldraw and publisher. Are they free and easy to use?

Marc

Corel publishes a graphics package, the most well known piece is Coreldraw.  It isn't free but it can generally be found for well under $100 and I think is roughly as good as Adobe.  You can learn it pretty easily, at least what is required to make units.  I never had any formal training and I've done multiple wargames with it.

Depending on what I'm doing I tend to use Coreldraw or Publisher.

Nice designs.  Have you done any work with the Romulans?  (my personal favorites)

Would it be fair to say that SFO influenced this development?  Or was this already in the works and SFO had the same influence and hit the shelves first?

I'm really liking SFO.  How will the changes to Starmada proper bleed over, particularly for conversions?

Other than Googleplex's (or other suggested house rules posted here) suggestions, how about just assuming the other guy might HAVE those things, and plan accordingly?

I don't think the game is broken....there's things in real life against which there is no (easy) defense....

Not having an easy defense is quite a bit different from "your only defense is to stay well out of range."  Googleplex's solution is a pretty respectable one though...

Interesting to see that the 2012 release may address this issue...

Can't wait to see what you've done!

Ditto!

I've always been of that opinion.  I suspect it won't change.

I still come back to the basic problem that if somebody fires drones/missiles at you and are within range there is zero defense against them.  Same for fighters but they cost more and you can at least potentially kill them next turn.  Whatever the physics I don't think we are postulating that fighters/drones magically appear next to ships to hit them thus explaining why a ship's crew can't fire as they approach...

"yahoo group files section"?

The Majestic Twelve Yahoo Group has a section for game related files...

Your campaign rule would be: screens only, no shields

Campaign modification: no single side may exceed the forward screen strength.

it's that simple.

Or rear screen must be weaker than front screen?

The other seems simpler to me but like Doris Day sang...
