Just tried.
Catalog/forthemasses/ftmcalc.xlt is corrupted, just an unsightly mess.
Ftm Point Calc 1.0.zip in the files section returnes an invalid file result (will not unzip). at least in Windows 7.

Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy and better new year for 2013.

Bit late for Christmas, just a few of the bookmarks I knocked up for myself.

This has a link to the builder.
As far as I know there was only an online builder for the compendium.

Has anybody figured out how to make a game board on-line or maps and stuff for a computer? I would like to have a board on my computer where I could at least play with someone who had an identical board and use an instant messenger. Oh, and writable PDF form for starships...

There are the Vassal modules in the Starmada files.
See these threads:

Have not seen a writable pdf form yet but meantime you could use a blank output from the shipyard or shipyard nova.

Please, could you upload this file here, because I can't download it from BGG?

Marc

You gave up?
You could have used the OnGsheet1 font printed at the right point size on self adhesive paper, should not have taken very long as all of the icons are ready outlined.
Or even made some damage dice using it (how about one with the weapon batteries and the Nova icon on the sixth side, all batteries hit)

Yes, shipyard nova is a spreadsheet (an alternative to the drydock) for constructing Starmada Nova data cards.
You can find spreadsheets and all sorts of Starmada goodies in the files section.
http://www.mj12games.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=3643

You should also check out the Starmada catalogue page where you can find counters mentioned in the book for Starmada Nova and in the "Stuff" files there are counters for the ships.

Not seen one.
Have you tried making your own blank ship form using the data sheet parts on the card sheet of shipyard nova?
You can have "Blank" ship cards by only entering hull and shield numbers.
Should only take a moment or two, copy and paste to the print sheet, which you could use to print it out or save it as a pdf.
I use open office calc but it will work with most spreadsheet progs.
If you have any questions about the spreadsheet just ask, I try to help.

The rules say you only check for damage the first time you cross the threshold.

Is there a version later than 1.1?
My copy states "When a ship becomes damaged, and again when it is crippled, roll....." (page 14 & 15) and I seem to recall the question having been brought up before, where it was possible for a ship to be repaired/regenerated to less than 1/3rd damage and later again trigger the condition for another "Damaged" check.

This is probably one of those instances when an expansion of the rule giving an example (one way or the other) would be helpful in a future book/revision.

BTW If a ship sustains enough damage in a single attack to go straight to crippled, you have to make two damage checks, once for having passed the condition for Damaged and again for Crippled.

Strange, I also get a different CRAT if the ship is entered into shipyard nova. :?

There is one thing I would add.
If the ship attempting to ram fails to do so it continues in a straight line, up to the current straight line speed or is placed in the next hex on from the target if the target's hex had been the ramming ship's maximum move (No hex side turn allowed in the same move).

The one day that I did not check e23
Now my collection is right up to date.
I have posted the latest shipyard nova 20120922 (just in case anyone is interested.)

I do believe that it was an Oops that has allowed the use of more traits than in Admiralty.
I have always resisted the temptation of putting silly* weapons on ships with one exception being an alien planet killer.
My thought is that there is no point in playing any game where everything goes Boom in the first turn.

How many weapon traits are allowed by the drydock?
I have thought of restricting the number allowed in shipyard nova a few times but I would not ban the use of expendable as it does have its' use (not to reduce cost) in conversions.

* Weapons that use traits to multiply the damage to the point of a fairly sure kill on the first attack.
This is just my 2d(Old Money)but it seems to me that it is an upward spiral, weapon does more damage > bigger ship > weapon does more damage > even bigger ship . . . .
Might just as well throw one D6 each, first to get a 6 wins!

Sounds good.  Not sure if my gaming buddies will go for it tho.
 Another solution is to manuever more carefully.

It would not really be any less than AE and probably more fun than "If I am in range I get to throw my bucket of D6's = your ship is toast". Maneuvering is fine if you get the chance. smile

I sometimes imagine rules writers churning out shed loads of D6 (and others) in their spare time and the odd bucket to put them in at the week end. lol

That might be a bit too far.
My choice would be "Weapon may have three traits and be expendable but only one of the three traits may be chosen from [Double Damage / Triple Damage / Catastrophic]."

Paul

You could make a house rule that a weapon can only have one "Damage Multiplier" trait from these.
Only one choice from Double Damage / Triple Damage / Catastrophic.
Not sure about adding Scatter to that.

May just be me but I do not combine these traits (not just because it cuts down the number of d6 needed) smile

I admit that is one thing that I missed looking at the Nova rules. AE has a limit of three traits per weapon (core rules page 44) (One of which may be range based).
This has changed to two range based in Nova but the overall trait limit has not been carried over.
If the limit was imposed two of those weapon traits would go.
I am still not sure about allowing Dx2 and Dx3 in the same weapon. As you have found, it can lead to overkill weapon designs.

Files is not really the place for questions.
The ships included in each book mirror ADB products.
Tholian webs are in Alien Armada (Nova Edition is listed for next month).

Mr Tholian wrote:

Do I need to download all the accompanying .zip files in order for the admiralty ship builder to work?

No, they are various parts such as counters for the Starmada books. The admiralty shipbuilder will work alone.

Mr Tholian wrote:

Also, I have downloaded, from this site, the NOVA shipbuilder and I am having trouble with SFU ships. I was trying to replicate the Neo-Tholian Destroyer using that builder and could not get it to work. Among the issues I ran into was a problem with the faceted shields. As I understand it, I should select "Yes" in the SFU faceted shields section (as well as "Yes" in the SFU ship section). Having done so, I need to enter the values for the shield facets. However, the builder does not allow a value of 1 to be entered for any facet, but specifically not for the N-DD's AP & AS positions.

If you are using Shipyard Nova the "Faceted shields" are for my own version data card and the value entered is not the number of SFU facets but the Nova shield value for each facet (shield value 6 = admiralty shields 1 : 5,5,5,6,6,5).
Converting SFU ships to official Nova you take the total admiralty shields number and enter it as armor, in the case of the Neo-Tholian Destroyer it would be 10.
There is a section on the shipyard nova ship sheet where you can enter admiralty weapon details and it will give BAS/Traits for Nova.

That would probably be the Catalog/Starmada shipbuilder (Admiralty files), which has been corrupted for a very long while (did not get replaced when most of the other files were).

I put a couple of the ships into the shipyard and I don't feel so bad now.
The War Eagle came out with a CRAT of 305, a difference of o.33%.
The Skyhawk came out with a CRAT of 351, a difference of 0.85% , which there is probable reason for. The Skyhawk phaser weapons do not show Diffuse for the phasers and has Scatter for the phaser 1!

If anyone would like a png for the Skyhawk let me know

This should be a sticky for everyone that bought the book
That is (in my eyes) a big way out, normally within a point or two.

When I design my biger ships, the large DNs, I try to to make them good all around.  The DDs, etc are the ones that have the Tls, Slw, or other unusual changes.  This seems to work well for me.  Recently, I have added Overthrusters to all my ships and to keep costs down I have deleted Firecontrol.  Overthrusters makes it difficult to out manuever my naval-style ships.  8-)

I can not remember having seen a picture of your ships. When are you going to share?

I hope that it was not my fault that you have decided to do this.
I have only done a few supplements and know how long it takes, although with me it is sketching and drawing the ships that takes the most time
