Before casting your vote re: painted or silhouette, you might want to see something more impressive than my little doodle...

Maybe "genres" was the wrong word... I meant pre-dreadnought era, RJW, WW2, etc.

In the Starmada and Grand Admiral rulebooks, we provide a half-dozen "generic" scenarios that are supposed to be representative of the types of battles fought by naval/space forces.

I'm looking for help in identifying (and designing) a similar set of archetypical scenarios for modern/sci-fi ground combat...

This is a place for y'all to request specific ships/genres/scenarios for Grand Fleets and Grand Admiral.

I just got into Grand Fleet, and then all forward progress gets killed for a new game.

Couple things:

1) Forward progress on Grand Fleets was not killed by GA... It's been a year since the last release for GF. While you can blame me and my ADD-style approach to game design, GF2 didn't exactly set this forum alight with interest. Besides, GF and GA can easily co-exist -- it's not one or the other. I see the situation as akin to the FedCom/SFU dichotomy.

2) I really like the idea of a self-contained game, complete with counters, and my continued return to a GA-type game was to some extent holding up progress on other things.

When a ship generation system gets integrated, I'll likely give it a try.

Stay tuned. smile

So, do the counters look better with a "paint job" or as a solid black silhouette?

If anyone has requests for ships to be included in future "Star Fleet Armada" products, please post them here.

The SFU material in RMA is taken directly from Romulan Border and was proofread by ADB. So while I am not terribly familiar with the background, it is a safe assumption that the reference to the "Constellation" is about a different class than the "Constitution", and is not a typo.

A question came up on the Miniatures Page about a "boxed" version of Grand Admiral, since PDF counters are a pain to assemble. I understand and agree that they can be a pain, but I have no means to produce die-cut counters.

I can produce pretty decent counter sheets, but the buyer would still need to cut the individual counters apart. Is that a significant enough improvement on PDF that it's worth doing?

Ahhh... the 'battleship with her great-aunt's teeth!' Vanguard was a beauty; she might not have been the most powerful battleship, but she sure was one of the most attractive... and I generally go for more 'round, firm, fully-packed' designs like the South Dakota.

Just because, here's what Vanguard looks like in Grand Admiral...

There is not... nor am I in a position to create one. Because of licensing restrictions, any material incorporating elements of the Star Fleet Universe must be published by Amarillo Design Bureau.

When should we expect the release of Grand Admiral: Castles of Steel?

August?

Will there be rules to account for the magazine explosions of the British battlecruisers at Jutland?

Possibly. Although I suspect an informal house rule would be rather easy to implement.

There is no ship generation info in Flashpoint Orange... right now, all the number-crunching is done via a rather complicated Excel spreadsheet. There may be something in the future.

I just found out that the web hosting service we've been with since the very beginning is closing up shop, effective 1/1/11. sad

Anyone have good experiences with their web host that they'd like to share?

It's really flippin' annoying, since the page says all the downloads are "Green", there are no "annoyances" shown, yet we still get a big red "X".

WTF?

Also, it provides an option for me to "leave a comment" (after registering with them  :evil:) but no way to contact them to ask why we get the big red "X".

EDIT: Found a feedback form. Hopefully I'll get some answers.

Just from my point of view i wouldn't mind having 2 sets of "tent" style counters instead of a double sided one (damaged/undamaged). Tent counters are easier to move on a real table top and just look better to me than having a counter "upside-down" relative to the other counters.

Are you suggesting one tent counter for the undamaged ship and another for the damaged version?

Maybe that could be an optional download? If I'm printing them from a PDF cost shouldn't be an issue, right?
Just finding something to complain about as usual  wink

Cost may not be an issue, but the time needed to create the download file is. big_smile

The action cards are just a way to mix up the order of play. One could just as easily apply a standard initiative-move-shoot sequence, and the rest of the game would not suffer.

I also enjoy being able to close with an enemy to the point of him not being able to fire defensively against them unless they themselves want to use drones.

From a gameplay perspective, this was a key consideration -- making sure to retain the anti-drone capability in KLA/RMA. I think it worked out exceptionally well, and as has been referenced elsewhere, it's cool enough that it should be somehow made into a global option for Starmada.

Majestic Twelve Games would like to announce the first release for our newest game system, GRAND ADMIRAL.

In the wake of the Great War, a new arms race loomed. The United States and Japan each trusted in a strong navy to achieve future security and retain political influence. Within three years of the Treaty of Versailles, no less than twenty-five new battleships and battlecruisers had been ordered by the two powers, exactly equal to the number already in commission at the end of the War.

The Washington Naval Treaty of 1922 was meant, among other things, to put an end to increased militarization in the Pacific; but by increasing Japanese resentment and playing into American fears, it could achieve no more than to delay the inevitable conflict. Had things gone differently, it might not have even done that much...

GRAND ADMIRAL: FLASHPOINT ORANGE includes the following:

* The Grand Admiral rulebook
* 150 full-color counters representing nearly all American and Japanese forces as of 1922
* Data cards for 150 individually named ships, representing over 50 different classes, from destroyers to super-dreadnoughts
* 16 action cards
* 17" by 22" game board

Grand Admiral is the collective name for Majestic Twelve Games' series of large-scale board games simulating naval combat during the age of the battleship.

Emphasizing simple game mechanics and fast gameplay without sacrificing historical accuracy, each entry in the Grand Admiral line stands alone. However, the core game mechanics remain constant, allowing players to combine ships from different products to create new scenarios and explore any number of "what-if" situations.

Although designed as a hex–n-counter board game, Grand Admiral can be easily adapted to tabletop play using any scale of naval miniatures. So, raise the battle ensign, sound general quarters, and damn the torpedoes -- your destiny awaits!

and I don't know why it had been decided that a ship could usually fire 12 drones in a starmada turn instead of 2 in a FC turn. Maybe the starmada turn lasts longer than a FC turn...

Mainly because in SFB/FC, dealing with each drone is a tactical challenge (where do I move, what countermeasures can I employ, etc.) In Starmada, dealing with one seeker is a non-issue. Dealing with a couple flights of 4 seekers each is a bit more challenging.

I understand people may disagree with some decisions made in the conversion, but there was some actual thought put into the process...
