It seems to be fine except for the weapons part. I get "N/A"s on the weapons page and can't retrieve that weapon on the main page. I may be doing something wrong.

FYI, I'm running the latest version of LibreOffice (7.0.3.1) on a Mac.

Thank you, will look at it.

Sorry if this has already been asked, but how does having directional screens affect the damage roll if the ship does not have shields? Specifically, how do you handle a roll of 6 (shields)?

I also had fun designing a Star Trek-themed SSD.

No need to be sorry - not your fault.

As for the 'condensed' SSDs, don't expect much. They're a slightly uprated version of the Drake system if you will. I intend to use the page preview function, take a screen capture, and paste it on spreadsheet while reducing its size at the same time. I can squeeze in 4 SSDs on a single page.

I'll download it and play around with it.

Edit: the file is jpg?

Thank you (and happy new year!)

The issue persisted even with the proposed workaround. However, I side stepped the whole thing by creating my own condensed ship displays. So I use the Excel file to build a ship, then I simply fill out the ship display accordingly.

Some of the house rules that were published in the forum over the years could be fairly easily included in the newer version. I could think offhand of a few such rules, like the 'NCO' one where you get to remove a suppression marker 'for free' for instance. As I mentioned, I'm really keen on the concept of directional damage. Something like simply adding +1 to the armor rating to the AFV's front.

In the end however I think that the core mechanic (a unit either engages, advances or strikes) should be left alone as it is simple yet elegant. A revised edition might benefit from a few new wrinkles while keeping the core mechanics intact.

I would definitely be willing to pay extra to obtain nice pre-cut counters. I also think that offering those separately whilst offering a less expensive option that comes stock with the game is a good idea.

I'm using my wife's computer which has Excel on it (version 2211) and the Drydock file works fine, except for when I'm trying to create a ship display (when unticking '0' and keeping the '1' ticked). Everything appears as it should except for the weapon stats on the right-hand side which appear in huge condensed letters. Any fix for that?

Thank you, now I fully understand. I get what you're trying to do, and avoiding further dice rolls is a good idea. Therefore, I have the following suggestion: how about assigning 'priorities' or levels to each type of special equipment, so that some special equipment would get destroyed by type before other ones? Example, with 'X' being the hull rows (from the Tiger stats):

XXXX : at the end of that row, you lose (say) shields
XXX : at the end of that row, you lose point-defence (both)
XXX : at the end of that row, you lose your jump engine

That being said, I'm not enamored with my own suggestion, but as I'm bed ridden with a massive migraine, that's then best I could come up with so far!

First new post in 10 years!

I think QL is a nice little game that is quite versatile. However, it would benefit from a little extra 'meat' on the bones. I for one would love to see a new version with the same core mechanic but with added features such as directional damage (armour being weaker on the sides/rear), additional traits, etc.

I tried using that file with OpenOffice, LibreOffice and Numbers (I run a Mac) and can't get it to properly work. Anyone has an adapted version for any of the three aforementioned softwares?

I'm not sure I totally understand how the degradation system works for weapons and thrust, and what happens to be the overall hull rating of the ship. With that caveat, how about something where at 50% of the hull being destroyed, the player must roll a saving throw of 4+ for each system on the far right?
