Just wondering if there were any Starmada Nova Edition Expansions in the works. I was particularly wondering if there was anything non-Trek planned...I feel like Nova Edition has really just become Trek Edition. I know that the guys at VBAM are working on some tie ins with some other tactical games and I was wondering given the past collaborative products if there was any chance there would be a VBAM 2nd Ed/SNE book.
Cheers,
Erik

Hi Erik, you could try asking over on the VBAM site but I am fairly sure that Jay said that there were no plans for a second edition version.
Maybe if enough people show an interest? Certainly I would not expect anything until announced projects are finished.
Wonder how many people are still waiting on Fleet Ops version 2, seems like it has been a long time since Dan mentioned it.

In Nova, this becomes a little more problematic, as damage is not applied to individual weapon mounts. I'm open to suggestions on that score.

How about simply increasing the weapon bank arc modifier for weapon damage.
If a ship takes weapon damage through the FF arc and has a weapon bank covering the same arc the hit increases the modifier by one. For example FF2 becomes FF3.

Rounding: Yes rounding to two decimal places keeps everyone on the same page so to speak (in a thread way back).
Weapon trait modifiers: Again yes but makes no real difference if you multiply them together or apply them one at a time.
Just remember that the range based combinations have different SU factors.

Hull size depends upon how long you want the game to last BeowulfJB's ships can be well over 100 hull. All comes down to how long you want the games to last and how many ships there will be. What I would say is look out for the upwards spiral - Larger ships - Larger Guns - Larger ships - Larger Guns.... which I think can get just plain daft.
Take a look through the files section to see how others have handled ship sizes.

Welcome, if you have any problems with the ship construction there is usually someone looking in that could help.
If you decide to give Shipyard Nova a go and have any questions just ask, I look in every day or so. The spreadsheet was written with OpenOffice, which can be put on a flash drive. It is a handy way to keep everything needed together in one place along with your ship designs.

Paul

Have you tried using Drone flights as Anti-Drones (Klingon Armada AE) against fighters?
If they can be used against attacking drones before the dice are rolled I do not see why they can not be used against fighters that are making an attack.

Paul

You should use the larger track to record shield damage from hits taken as it tells you the total shield strength now available. Ships can sometimes take a few hits before you have to reduce the individual facet strengths.
See picture.

Fantastic, thanks for these arcs--they're one of the most common arcs I use...:D

Fantastic flop, Sorry download the files again.
I did not see (even with two eye tests and new glasses!) I had duplicated "TR" so I have changed the arcs to TP & TS.
Still, glad you do not have to enter them yourself now. You should have said, I would have put them in sooner.

A recent question about the Imperial Belligerent had me thinking about the Belligerent's Offset lightning turret, which in AE covers ABCE arcs. I had not put that in (also handy for another game where the port and starboard weapon mounts covered the same arcs).
So ...... me being me. TL and TR arcs with mod of 2.04. I have updated the spreadsheet, reference page and quick reminder.
Which gives a slightly different data card for the Belligerent class.

Perhaps Uncle_Joe could comment as I added a requested card deck to the Nova Vassal module for random initiative.

No you are not missing something, Stealth is not detailed in Klingon Armada starship systems (it is in later books - Alien / Distant Armada). My version is 1.1 April 2012 I have no idea if this has been included in the book since.
It is treated the same as ECM, for each level of stealth attacks suffer a -1 penalty to the weapon attack modifiers.
Only difference is that stealth cannot be reduced by damage the way ECM can.

The marker for a seeker is placed in the firing ship's hex to indicate where it was fired from (unless at a standstill the firing ship will no longer be in that hex when the attack is resolved next turn).

Bought mine through RPGnow years ago and that did not need a password for opening or printing.

I have only come across one pdf book file that was password protected from opening, got in touch with RPG and they uploaded a new file.

Austrian Janos Hunyadi (Merchant War) data does not tally with the ship graphics which show secondary guns and only eight light guns, however the stats in the book are rules legal and the ship size does not allow the secondary guns. I have amended the counters to bring the light guns up to 10 (2 guns underneath are side by side) and taken off the secondary guns just in case anyone actually cares.
Not wanting to waste anything, a sister class based on the picture in the book, Babenberg Heavy Cruiser.

Chinese Torpedo Junk and Destroyer, both point legal and now match pictures. Note that a fair number of Iron Stars ships have double barrelled light guns.

Revision 1.0 January 2008.

Paul

My core rulebook is version 1.1-April 2012, in pdf from RPGnow.com, which let you know if the files get updated.
I have the rules annex, printed version which is the one that you have.

The Klingon/Alien errata threads are for the admiralty editions.
The rules in the Annex are all pre SFU books.
The last appendix A covered what options are in which book up to Alien Armada, see: http://www.mj12games.com/starmada/appendixA.pdf
Distant Armada has Expanding Sphere Generators and Hydran Stingers.

If I may, Tech levels -2 to +2 are as per the AE core rules (a default level range) but you can change the "Tech Range" as per Expanded Tech Levels (which just stretches the 0.5 to 2.0 modifier over greater levels) also as per core rules.
Example in the book is -5 to +5 but the shipyard will go finer up to -10 to +10.
Choice is at C1 on the tables sheet.

1} As above
2) As above
3) Marines and Probes are treated as weapons and have ranges attacking ships with Directional Defences.
The +2 on mines, ya got me thar! Copy/Paste?
4) Only Piercing so far.
5) Use the shipyard converter to give an idea of what it would be in SAE and use the Nova figure.
If I really like a ship I use the AE shipyard first and then convert it to Nova (getting the SFO figure along the way).

Thanks... I remembered that they weren't effective against direct fire energy weapons, but I was wondering about photons. I'll have another look at that page. Thanks again smile

ESGs do not work against photon torpedoes.

I'm also not sure how to translate the 'treated as' increase in shield ratings to individual facets

Example 1. A cruiser has shields 4,3,3,3,3,2 and 1 x ESG. If attacked by a flight of Drones the shields are treated as being 5,4,4,4,4,3.
Example 2. A Battle Cruiser with shields 4,3,3,3,3,2 and 2 x ESG. Attacked by a Hellbore weapon. Shields are treated as being 5,5,5,5,5,4 (Max shield 5) The shield strength used against this attack is 4, the weakest.

Does that help?

No, the ESG/s are used against all Drone, suicide shuttle and hellbore attacks. They are only marked off the "specials" through taking damage. The number of ESGs carried determines how effective they are, Page 13 "For each ESG.....".
They are used in conjunction with the shields after hits are determined.
In Starmada they are defensive only.

Sorry, you did not say which version you are using.
In the Admiralty Edition Drone Racks are noted in the "Special" section of the data card. Whether launched as drones or anti-drones you note it in this section.
Note the maximum launch rate on page 30 (though I am sure this does not affect the launching of a single flight (if you still have any) of anti-drones).
As with the Nova edition there are no reloads. If it says Drone Rack (3) you only have the three flights for the game.

Paul

Your example, Yes.
If you have Klingon Armada (Nova) page 9 explains that each weapon bank is represented by the firing arc and attack dice modifier. Page 21 "Expendable" explains that a bank is crossed off when fired and cannot be used again.
In the case of Drone Racks each one is shown as one bank on the ship card.
For example, Federation Kirov class has 4 Drone Racks represented on the card by the [TT4] x4. Each time one is fired a [TT4] is crossed off. There are no stores or reloads, once thay are gone that is it for the game.
