I want to play the game as its designed and will pas this along to my gaming buddies. We are playing this afternoon.
I noticed that if I take one of my designs with engine=4 with overthrusters, then delete the overthrusters and increase the engines to 5 that the cost comes down.
What is the advantage of Engine=4 + overthrusters versus just having Engine=5 ?

So a ship with overthrusters needs to use them right after it moves, when it's player decides weather to pivot.
Oh, we have been doing this wrong...
Hello everyone,
I want to make sure that we are using Overthrusters correctly.
We do movement without pre-plotting. After the initiative roll, the low-roller moves a ship, or ships depending on how many ships each side has. Both sides alternate moving ships, then fighters.
After all movement is completed, then ships with Overthrusters may pivot one hex-facing port or starboard.
Are we using Overthrusters correctly?

Hello everyone from Jacksonville,
My friends up here and I played two games of Starmada Wednesday.
The first one was a c5,000 point battle. A fleet of mine attacked a big 4200 point starbase and its two escorting ships. I destroyed the Starbase & two ships, but all I had left of my big fleet was one 1-hull 35 point gunboat...
How does the song go?: "...one tin soldier rides away..." <LOL>
The second one was when my friend who I played against earlier & I played against another friend who uses Nova-edition ships with no shields.
The Nova-edition fleet was defeated.

My friends & I played SFB in the beginning days back in the 1980s. :!:
I still have the original rules, Expansions 1,2,3 as well as updated Captian's Editions.
I also played Starfire.
I definitely prefer Starmada.

I will order a copy of Distant Armadas as well as Alien Armadas, and Battleships Armada when it comes out as well.
My friends and I here in Jacksonville play Starmada at least twice a week.
It is a fun challenge to keep up with my friends when it comes to ship-design & game tactics.
We are having a great time. 8-)

I realize that 18 hull & armor is large, but it is the smallest I could make this ship given these criteria: :ugeek:
Only one +1 in any tech level,
Triple & twin turrets to match what USS Nevada actually had,
Good damage value for the 14"Plasma Guns,
Significant AA fire (average of 18 fighters destroyed per turn)
Engines = 4,
Adequate shields = 3.
The largest Naval BB design is 20 hull & 20 armor, my SNS South Dakota design. We often play battles with 3,000+ points a side.
We are playing tomorrow and the SNS Nevada will be in my force...

A question;
If a ship has an engine rating of four and is stuck in a web strength four, is its engine-rating reduced to zero before emergency thrust, or are the engines doubled to eight, then the web strength subtracted?

I think that thrust points=engine points from engine rating.
If a ship is stuck in a web stronger than its engine rating, it could double its engines for a turn to escape... :idea:
Actually I was looking for ideas on how many hull points does a FF, DD, CL, CA, BC, BB, DN, etc have; between what two numbers?

What Criteria do players use to classify ships as destroyers, cruisers, battleships, etc.?
Is hull size used or is Point Value used?
I have a vague system based on hull size. I have DDs with 8 hull, CAs with 12 hull, and BBs with 16+ hull.
What do other players use :?:

Hello everyone,
Four of us played a big game of Starmada yesterday here in Jacksonville.
Each side had 6,000 points (!) My ally played a large 2700 pt ship with level 5 shields. I played three of my Arizona-type DNs with level three shields and two cruisers. The two guys on the other side concentrated on my ships because they thought the level 5 shilds to difficult to penetrate. All three of my DNs & the two cruisers were destroyed, then my ally's big ship mopped up the rest of the other side. We had fun. 8-)
The game took c3 hours.

We played a 3000 point battle on Saturday using the restriction of only one +1 tech. I put the +1 into weapons tech.
We also do not use the Expendable or the Slow Trait. The game went well and was more like the Starmada I enjoy.
The game lasted eight turns. There was maneuvering and ships lasted longer. I like it this way better.

My friends here in Jacksonville & I have changed how we play Starmada.
We will allow a free +1 tech for fighters and another +1 tech placed at the designer's choice. Also, my friends want to not use the Slow weapon trait.
We had too many almost one shot weapons that had high damage and two Slw traits.
We still don't use any expendables or seekers.
I look forward to our next game on Saturday, and will let everyone know how this works out. :idea:

We are still playing twice a week up here in Jacksonville. I have a question about Assault Fighters. If one of them is involved in a dogfight or attacking a ship with antifighter-batters, what happens when the fighter rolls a one and then a 6 with its two attacks?
Does it score a hit and is also destroyed? Or is it destroyed by the roll of "1" before scoring the hit?
