Curious-- do you feel it necessary to differentiate which fighter came from which carrier? Or do you assume fighters can land on whatever carrier has space for them?
Unfortunately, our forum software is a bit simple, and does not recognize you are trying to display the image from the linked web page. You're better off making them hyperlinks instead of image tags, like this:

The Starmada: FT book is still available: https://www.wargamevault.com/product/31 … ull-Thrust
Regarding additional factions, which ones were you most hoping to see? UNSC and... ?
Ok... it looks like LibreOffice doesn't like the ACC values to be in the format "X+". Easy fix.
Here is the LibreOffice version:
If the ship has no shields (i.e. only screens, directional or otherwise) a roll of 6 is "no effect." Similarly, if the ship has no engines (i.e. is a base station) a roll of 4 is "no effect."
This is something I'm looking into changing.
No, I haven't actually uploaded the file yet. Just seeing if there's anyone who will look at it.
I have been working on an updated version of the Starmada Drydock, one which should be fully functional within both MS Excel and LibreOffice. At the moment it builds ships but does not create the SSD.
Anyone interested in taking a look and trying to break it for me?
I'm sorry the workaround didn't fix the problem... but I would be very interested to see your condensed SSDs.
Blacklancer99 wrote:I guess I would like to know what the precut counters would be made of. If they're just perforated cardstock (I think some of the B5Wars game supplements came with these) I wouldn't be as excited about them as if they were die cut out of some nice thick material like the games of yore I'm having flashbacks to sorting Avalon Hill Blitzkrieg pieces.
So the precut counters would be laser-cut, thick chipboard. Very nice-- but utterly impractical for me to bulk order and warehouse. Thus the thought that I could provide DIY counters with the product and allow players to purchase the proper counters as an add-on at cost.
These would be 1" square counters, if that helps inform.
Let's say for the sake of argument we were considering the release of a product that included its own counters. Would you be turned off by the inclusion of cardstock sheets that require further assembly to use in the game, with the option of buying pre-cut counters for an additional cost? Or would you want pre-cut counters to be the standard?
I've noticed it does that on the screen display every once in a while, but seems to fix itself when printed. Have you tried doing the "Print Preview"?
Getting closer to a Major Announcement...
I appreciate the suggestion, and it's not bad. I wonder about the effect of always losing systems in the same order; it encourages "padding" (i.e. adding a bunch of unimportant systems to make sure you never lose the important stuff). But at this scale I suppose it's not a huge issue.
Okay, so the thrust/weapons are reduced as the ship takes damage. For example, the Tiger starts with a thrust of "1-2-1" (4 MPs/turn broken into three segments); after it takes seven hits (three shields at the top and then four hull boxes in the first row), its thrust is reduced to "1-1-1". Likewise, after three more hull hits, Tiger has no more Beam-1 or Torpedo weapons, and only has a single Beam-2 that can fire forward or to the sides.
The idea of rolling for each system after X damage has been taken is where I'm leaning, even though I've always been wary of threshold checks--they seem to slow the game down for me.
I have been thinking about revisiting this one, and maybe building the core a bit... I'm a bit wary of getting too into the weeds with it, though.
There used to be a separately-built/maintained spreadsheet that worked with Open Office, but I don't know its status. For my part, I am hoping to (re)build the Drydock from the ground up in LibreOffice when I get some time to do it.
Doing some light arts & crafts in preparation for weekend playtesting. Whaddaya think of the fold-up minis?
Confused by the restrictions you mention... I am able to attach more than one file per post... ?
So, we've been working on A Thing with our friends at Ad Astra Games... As part of an ongoing project to do automatic conversions of Squadron Strike ship designs to Starmada stats, we're implementing auto-created XML SSDs. Here are some examples for you to look over.
What do you think?
Working on an update to Fleet Ops, and I have hit a stumbling block. See the example ship below, based on a Full Thrust design. Everything makes sense, except how to handle damage to systems (the string of characters at far right). The Tiger CS has a level-1 screen (@), a jump drive (J), and two point defense systems (P). I can't simply do a proportional degradation as for thrust and weapons, since it matters which specific systems are damaged. Any ideas?
The Bourbaki Basins have been restored from the previous forum. Again, sadly, any attachments are unavailable... hopefully those who posted them can reupload where appropriate.
Thanks!
