A U turn is the sum of the previous and current speeds
So it means add them together.

My ship have engine capacity of 3 so:
1turn - move forward 3 hexes (speed 3)
2turn - speed lovered to zero
3 turn - U turn or (U3, 1U2, 1U1) (0+3, 0+3, 0+2)

Turn 3
U3: Previous speed 0+Crurrent speed 3=3
1U2: Previous speed 0+ Crurrent speed 1+2=3   So 0+3=3
1U1:Previous speed 0 + Current speed 1+1 =2

1turn - move forward 3 hexes (speed 3)
2turn - speed lovered to zero and U turn (3+0, 0U)

Previous speed 3 + current speed 0 = 3

How about this

Turn one 5

Turn two 1U2

Pevious speed 5 Plus 1+2=3 So you would need 8 points of thrust to do this.

How about using the flotilla rules. If I remember Y-wings/X-wings most of the rebel ships have hyperdrives. Making them sz 1 ships in not much of a strech for this game. With the flotilla rules you can even give the ships weapons that have a prettty long range.

Just a thought.

Yep I got a bunch of the indust. Gothic painted up, found them in a bargin bin.

Never played with them yet.

There were all one faction so I divided them up and painted them diffrent, for a blimp civil war. Neat concept I even bought Areonef to play with but I never did.

I would like to play but never used vassel.

IMHO when all shield hits are scored they should first be taken from the shield that was hit. That is what happens in Fed Com.

I also think you should not copy Fed Com. Completely the one of the main draws of Starmada is the Weapon traits, if you just want a beam attack with no fluff you have Full Thrust. With Starmada you can have so much more then vanilla weapons. Why not make Disruptors "repeating" or Photons "slow firing" and "double damage"?

I think you should talk to some people and at Star Fleet and see what they think.

Spice things up a bit that's what I think...........................................Doug

I don't think it will help much by slowing down your ship, how about making smaller ships using countermeasures, and evasive actions to get your ships in close? Then all the points he paid for inverted ROF will be for nothing. That will give you a -3 to be hit or -4 at long range if you have a REAL fast ship it could be a -5 to be hit at long range.

I think against your nephew's ships speed will be your biggest asset instead of trying to slug it out at long or medium range.

That was my only complaint about the games I played with you guys, no one ever got in close, all combat took place at long to med range I like a bit a maneuver when playing starship games that's why I am also interested in Fed Com for one on one games.

Funny you should mention that...

Now thats service!

I just bought my PDF copy today!

It seems to me that all the "inverted" weapon traits are brutal

Even more brutal, as his group playes with 30" range, if they played with a maximum range of 18 then fast ships can get closer and negate the inverted stuff.

Why not just use the "basic" Starmada Rules?

Max range 18
Piercing is only +1
The old firing arcs
ect....

Your nephew's ships are pretty hard to handle maybe house rule “Only one trait per weapon .”

Is your nephew still using screens?

If so, come on cloaked, with a very fast ship I am talking 20 speed, have all your weapons facing the rear arcs make them all slow firing. Turn two uncloak: use your speed to get behind your nephew then blast him with all your weapons in a massive alpha strike. Then cloak. Wash, Rinse and Repeat.

He probably has very little facing his rear and side arcs so you just uncloak where he doesn't expect you.

Just playing you your father and your Nephew last week I have learned that Piercing +3 is pretty broken my 5 rated shields were as if there were not even there. I did manage to take out your father but his screens were only a 2.

Good luck…………………..Doug

Instead of having to buy all those supplements, how about selling a rules update to Starmada?

Why do the space values on the excel worksheet change when I adjust the TECH RANGE?

According to the Core rule book the is the  maximum +/- Value possible p.42

I thought the values should only change when I adjust the Tech level for each of the individual componants, like engine weapons ect...

Thanks................Doug

Hey Cricket, I would suggest going over to the FC forums and read about he tactics used in Fed Com. Then I would suggest playing a few games to get the feel of how it plays.

The game is all about maneuver and power. That is pretty hard to simulate in Starmada (power)

also if you can find some Fed Com players near you or at a con to playtest.

Wow sounds like fun,

What does Inverted ROF do?

Maybe a rule that makes it a disvantage to build one big ship?

I think allot of this discussion could be avoided with an increased cost for the higher tec. levels. My feeling is that the current tec. level costs might be to low, and not taking in account for the "First Shot" advantage.

I would also suggest maybe cheaper movement costs. Have movement costs cheap compared to weapon costs. You could easily make this starship game a game of maneuver if movement costs were cheaper.

But: would faster moving ships make the game more interesting?

I would think so, because of the success of Star Fleet Battles. I am not saying change the game to Star Fleet Battles but making this a game of maneuver like SFB could not hurt.

So maybe single fire arc's might be another rule you could incorprate.
