Um, no, not really. My main concern was to insert flotillas with minimal changes to the rules--so it's not too much trouble to simply slot in, as it were. I like your idea, however I think there should always be the possibility of taking shield and thrust damage (think of it as shrapnel from exploding flotilla ships impacting other ships).

Here's a first draft of the flotilla damage concept:

"Units designated as Flotillas should be treated as having Fragile Systems for weapon, system and munitions, but Re-inforced systems for thrust points and shields"

That gives an automatic 50% reduction in weapon, system and munition damage but a much reduced chance of thrust or shield damage, representing the reduction in raw firepower and loss of unit coherency, but showing that ships are rarely physically affected by other ships being destroyed.

Update: seems like my anger should be directed at the POD system, not the Royal Mail. One of the books ordered was re-classified as inactive and, because of that, the order hasn't been sent out yet. So, umm, sorry Royal Mail

Usually it's fairly good, although the quality does, of course, vary across the UK, but generally speaking, aside from a couple of horror stories (like the time I ordered SAE: Romulan Armada from ADB, when it failed to turn up at all and I had to ask Dan for help, or the time I wasn't in for a delivery of B5Wars books and they couldn't fit it through the postbox so they simply took it back...with a torn envelope and during one of the heaviest rains of that year--my copy of Coming of the Shadows was badly rain damaged but luckily not beyond reading comprehension) they are fairly good round here. It usually takes two weeks for deliveries from the US to here (which is why I started being on the lookout from round the 10th).

Hopefully it'll be through the door on Tuesday and I can start converting my old IS designs and maybe provide some expansion for the Dreadnoughts book (got my PDFs of Brassey's Naval Annual ready)

Sorry for the rant. I've not had a great year (March to May being particularly difficult) and thought I should get something I haven't yet got for Christmas. Unfortunately, that didn't really work out... neutral

That's also what I mean--I'd be happy to work on a SNE expansion that gets officially published...:)

Excessive creative energy after Humanity Ascendant led to this supplement. Only four warship designs above hull 10, and six fleet lists of 2000 points with one fleet containing one hundred vessels...:)

Liking the effort. I must say I'm more of a B5 than Star Trek man myself, but it's always good to see new designs...:)

Someone mention my name? tongue

I wouldn't mind working on a SNE expansion, but I'd need someone to do the artwork--just look at my efforts in my supplements to see what I mean...:)

Another SAE supplement by yours truly. I had intended for a different supplement but those ideas ran into a dead-end. Civilians, Mercs/Raiders, normal naval units (including some auxiliary units) and some polity-specific units such as the Terran Coalition's Pangaea-M Light Missile Juggernaut and the Celestial League of Vega's Tenacious Pursuer Disruptor Cruiser, plus a couple force lists for 250/500/1000/2000 points.

The Procyon Imperial Commonwealth had a bit of a re-design this morning, with the old Flak Battery (a 36 SU weapon) being substituted for a 18 SU version and the ship either having their Flak Battery's arc widened (Knight CA), the number of FBs doubled (Baron BCVL) or the number of FBs kept the same but the space taken up by half the FB's number of Light Rail Turrets (Count BCV, Earl BCVH and Duke CBCV)

And, only four days after ordering, they arrived. But, seeing as how lonely they were, I just had to get some extra dice. For my birthday, you understand...:D

As my family have had trouble buying gifts for me (namely because if I want something, like a book, I'll get it as soon as I can), this year they asked me and, luckily, I'd been reminded of a place which sells dice such as d10s and polyhedral dice only a few days before. So, after mentioning it to them (meaning: searched for, found and ordered dice directly myself), hopefully I will soon be the proud owner of twenty d10s, two sets of percentage dice and four lots of polyhedral dice. It might even mean I get to do some gaming soon...:)

For my birthday I might *ahem* suggest *ahem* some d6s and more polyhedral dice...;)

After a few months, here's a new SAE supplement courtesy of yours truly.

My thoughts and condolences go to the families and loved ones of those who were killed yesterday in Paris, to those injured yesterday in Paris, to the people of Paris and the people of France.

Sorry for the seven year-plus necro...

But are you sure that AFB figure is correct, Dan? Surely it should be divided by 5, as SX AFB took up 5%...?

A micro-supplement caused when I realised one set of designs were incompatible with the rest of the supplement...

Excess creative energy from 'Divided We Fall' led to the creation of two powers (Terran Commonwealth and Struvan Swarm), bit of additional work led to the creation of the other three (Folikarin Royal Alliance, Kazloran Commonwealth and Rajilan Federation).

About two-three hours after posting, I discovered what is hopefully the only piece of errata--the Blunderbuss-Eta is listed as having a Light Maser Torpedo in the V battery, when it should be a Light Rocket Launcher. Revised supplement will be posted shortly...

A supplement courtesy of yours truly. I had intended to create a normal supplement but decided instead to release it as a series of files. In a few days I'll post up the actual ships in a series of posts.

Part of the reason for my decision is because this supplement was in part a continuation of my 'modular weapons' idea that I worked on in 'Fire-Forged Friends' which means that for ships of light cruiser-class and above, there are eight variants of each class (four different heavy batteries and two different standard batteries). This meant there was a lot of different ship designs with minimal changes, which while it proved troublesome to fit into one of my normal supplements, it could be the basis of a small tournament--pick one class (say the Demi-Cannon light cruiser) and put eight pieces of cards with the letters A-H on them into a hat. Players pick whichever card and that is their warship for a free-for-all fight.

EDIT: New version of supplement down below...

Well...

One of my aims was also to develop the capacity for a HH-style universe with missiles represented by strikers/seekers but with their virtual impunity it'd be less like the battles represented in the book, it'd be "missiles streak in, detonating before their target's point defence could cope"

And I do know that you can use fighters/strikers such as anti-drones against opposing strikers/seekers, but my other aim is to make it possible for a side to not have to field some form of fighters because, at the moment in AE, fighters are almost necessary if you want to have a relatively good chance of winning.

I've been thinking about AE for the last few months, particularly with regards to fighters, strikers and seekers. An issue with the AE rules as-written meant that strikers and seekers, especially fast versions thereof, could in theory attack ships with virtual impunity and that only fighters could engage them before they attacked ships. I had been thinking of ways to improve the AF capabilities of ships but they revolved around the use of slow 'interceptor platforms' designed to remain on Combat Interception to intercept strikers and seekers on their attack runs, but that wasn't a perfect solution--and besides, it didn't allow the ship itself to attack their potential killer.

Then the Combat Interception rules provided an answer in another guise--those rules form the backbone of an optional rule I'm calling 'Anti-Fighter Alert', which allows Fighter-Exclusive weapons to attack fighters on their attack runs. The second suggestion focuses on making Anti-Fighter Batteries more effective in their primary purpose, by also allowing them to engage fighters on their attack runs.

Questions and comments welcome as always...

If you have the NE rulebook, in the conversion guide from AE to NE it suggests simply multiplying the BAS by the AE combined range-based trait modifier (so a weapon with Carronade+No Range Modifiers receives a x0.6 multiplier). That, to me, felt a bit wrong--if, as I had with some AE weapon designs, intended for the weapon to be a long-range weapon which was most effective at long range and gave it a Inverted Range Modifiers+Inverted Range-Based ROF why, in the conversion, would it simply be turned into a boring normal weapon that was less effective at long range and had a bucket-load of dice at short range, the opposite of what I had intended? Unfortunately, I had no answer.

A couple of years later, with an hour or two to kill and a desire to create an AE/NE setting, it turned out I did...

This shouldn't be considered a set-in-stone thing (I'm particularly unsure about the Carronade+... weapon traits I calculated, which is why they're in red) but more a thing to allow weapons with combined range-based traits to be converted with more faith to the original version.
