There it goes. A short and very precise answer.

It's a pitty though. it was an excellent conjugation of games. Well, I'll have to do it all by myself...  sad

I searched in the forum and found nothing about crew complement of the IS ether ships.

Is it roughly the same number of tripulants of the wet navy ships of the same size?
Is it a lower number on the account of life support systems? And if it is lower, how much lower? 1/2? , 1/3? , 1/5?

Example: HMS Indefatigable
Size:
Length 590 feet overall, displacement loaded 22,080 tons.
Crew 790.

I would compare it with:

HMES Gauntlet Class Battlecruiser
Size:
Length 592 feet overall, displacement loaded 22,100 tons.
Crew? 1/2 = 395 1/3 = 263 or 1/5 = 158

I know it's a fluff question, but it answers a lot of small detail about the inside of the etherships.

Mandovi-Class Frigate

The Mandovi class is a ship of small proportions and limited combat value. Strangely it has an enormous suply capacity and a very small crew enabling her to make longer patrols than most ships of her size.
The sisters ships of this class are the "Limpopo", "Açor", "Bengo", "Moçambedes" and "Beira".

Two and an half observations that I feel I must offer:

1) I have the Sovereign Stars and played it with three friends years ago. We had fun but there was one thing that was very boring: the book keeping between game days. We used to play all the major battles with starmada and ships that we had pre-generated to be different to each race. The problem was the dinning table. We had to store the game every saturday night and rebuild it the next saturday. As Sovereign Stars is a campaign game, I think that in the next book there should be control sheet to facilitate this operation and to maintain book keeping.

2) The book should have ships for every race of the TI universe (14, a lot, yes I know) and the ships should have upgrades that could be used as the players research new technologies. That would be absolutely beautiful. If you need help, please say so. I'll be glad to help.

Half) To finalize, after doing this - maybe FFG would be willing to cast minis for that ships and sell it in their line of minis. I would buy. And I guess I wouldn't be the only one.

Tejo-class Cruiser

The Tejo-class cruiser and her two sister ships are the first portuguese ether cruisers. Portugal and Great Britain has the longest existing alliance (dating back to the 12th century) so it's natural that it was to Great Britain that Portugal turned to to buy it's first etherships. Great Britain honoured their long last alliance by selling Portugal three hulls based on the Banneret. The Portugese put the guns on for themselves and made some interesting modifications. If these modifications are of any good it's still to see. The sister ships are Pedro Nunes and Vouga.

Vasco da Gama Battleship

The Vasco da Gama-Class Battleship is the only battleship from the portuguese Ether Navy. Building it was an epic achievement that it is contested by a large group of portuguese that feel that the money wasted in it could be better used. Still, it was a statement of commitment made by probably the weakest colonial European power, and one hard to forget. An heavily modified Bantam class battleship, nobody in Portugal or in Great Britain wants to recognize it, for various reasons. After his launching in 1910, it returned to dock to replace it's contigence of mines with an array of machine guns after the realization of the power of FACs against larger targets. Still waiting to show it's capabilities at full, nonetheless it's a ship to be reckon with.

From the diary of the Lt-Captain Afonso Miranda Teles, Captain of the Light Cruiser "Cidade de Lisboa" and Commander of the Venus Expedition:

October o3, 1911.
Once again, my question about the male Aindurian wasn't answered. There was pain in Sa'atia eyes when she changed subject and I felt no courage to insist. She was right about the dangers we would face. After we walked several hours and having rested once, we encountered a huge beast. It had eight long limbs, and I can only compare it with a bull with big horns crossed with an yellowish octopus. When the creature met us, the women soldier pointed their lances at it but made no threatening gest. I, myself, pointed my pistol at it and protected Sa'astia with my body. The beast growled twice and started to leave when Mr. Pessoa coughed. The beast turned around and charged at us. I fired three shots that surely hit the monster squarely in the head but seemed to be of no visible effect. Then the lances of the soldiers fired a burst of hot light and the beast fell to its side. The women looked at my weapon with as much surprise as I looked at their lances. Later, while we were moving away from the creature, Sa'atia told me that it's name was Voltoro and that the lances stopped it cold, but it was my weapon that killed the animal. And she thanked me for protecting her. I felt a warm sense of accomplishment going up my spine.
Six hours later she showed me what we come here to see. An huge underwater city. A Karroom's city. It is constructed in the shallows. For what I can see, the Karroom build underwater walls so that the sea waves don't reach their cities. Emerged from the sea there huge chimneys that send out plumes of smoke. So they build things and are able to make underwater fires of a sort. Rising out of the water there is a construction site. As I can see, they appear to be making some kind of vehicle. Very big. It looks like a zeppelin. Near the city in another site there is a ripped apart skeleton of a Martian walker. They are learning from it. Most alarming. After my question about peace with the Karroom, Sa'atia answered me with this sentence: "We are invaders. Why should they want to make peace with us?" I fear that this kind of honesty will put me in problems in the near future. After we come back we had a silent dinner. Mr Pessoa draw a quick portrait of Sa'astia. I did not need to ask for it. Mr. Pessoa offered it by his own will. I think that Mr. Pessoa is also a little telepathic.

From the diary of the Lt-Captain Afonso Miranda Teles, Captain of the Light Cruiser "Cidade de Lisboa" and Commander of the Venus Expedition:

October 02, 1911.
I wake up with the rain falling over the roof of the tent where I am sleeping. The smell of the rain in the dirt is strange but sweet. Is it raining in Lisbon? At my side in his blankets, Mr. Pessoa is still sleeping. He speaks while he sleeps. He says strange things. We are at another island. Sa'astia asked me to come here. There was something important to show me. I don't know if it's a strategy to draw me away from my ether ship, but I feel that I can trust this woman. We arrived here with an heavy gale, but the zeppelin travelled steadily. Mr. Pessoa emptied his belly several times, but never complained himself. He made a sketch of the Zeppelin and it is very acceptable.
We will leave on foot after breakfast. Together with me, Sa'astia and Mr. Pessoa, there will be a group of ten soldiers. All of them women. They are armed with strange lances and they look dangerous. When I asked what was the danger, Sa'astia, touched my arm and say aloud in Portuguese "several dangers". Astonished, I only nodded. She learned from my head. As I come to understand, their telepathy works only at close proximity and only if the other person accepts it. Is this true, or only a good lie to make us at easy? They are ready to go. Sa'astia looks at me with a smile and magically a ray of sun pierces the eternal clouds.

Hi Dugan:

I hope I'm not bothering you with the "Yes, sir, Adm..." stuff. I'm just making humour and I do really like the honorifics. It gives this forum more "patine", or how to say it in english, more substance. So if it really is annoying, I'm sorry and I'll stop.

For the ships, of course I know that it isn't just a snap of fingers and it is done. I was just using a creative (?) way of asking for more ships. I know you all have a lot to do and a lot of games to produce, but this game, after Starmada is my favourite and I really want more of it.

I don't ever intend to be rude or to make fun of someone who isn't okay with it and that makes fun of me too.

Sir, Admiral Dugan, Sir!

After I put over my dinning table all the tent-ships for IS (I had to take them out of the table too soon, for my wife needed the table - what for, I don't know - but I never argue when it's my minis against my dinner) I found out that some ships should be "rendered"  :?  by our most perfect renderer Admiral Dungan, Sir.

German Very Small ship counters
German Very Large ship counters
Soviet Very Large ship counters
Italian Very Small ship counters

IMHO the zepps should have the same game engine from IS, for a question of universe cohesion, with different rules for movement (it should be different from ether movement), weapons, and crew (crew quality and boarding parties).

From the diary of the Lt-Captain Afonso Miranda Teles, Captain of the Light Cruiser "Cidade de Lisboa" and Commander of the Venus Expedition:

September 29, 1911.
We are camped in a little island called Arratchu. Sa'atia said it loudly so I could listen to the name. We are of the same race, now I know it. But as is usual since I arrived to Venus, I'm not starting by the very beginning. I shall do it now. We came here by zeppelin. We boarded it yesterday morning and we arrived here yesterday night, all this measured by earth standards, for here is always day. Sa'atia told me that only after many passages of time will be night and then night will stay for many more passages of time. I hope we don't have to be here then. As it is I already feel most difficult to fall asleep.
The Zeppelin we came in here was a beautiful craft, that moved by the force of wind and wind wheels. I will try to draw it, or ask Mr. Pessoa to do it. He is far more skilled than I am. When we arrived, I was so tired that we camped and decided to sleep before heading to "the most revered of places".
Today we fully understand why the Ainduren weren't scared by us. As we reached the site I wasn't able to avoid a loudly gasp and Mr. Pessoa dropped his camera in surprise. I was a most unfortunately thing because he had to draw everything after that. The pyramid was similar to the ones in South America and Mr. Pessoa told me that it looked like Machu Pitchu and it was Inca fashion. I believed him for the Andurian as they listen to Mr. Pessoa saying Machu Pitchu had a fit of happiness and Sa'atia kissed me in the cheek. I maintained a gentleman stand and kissed her soberly back in her cheek, but I must confess that I liked the feeling. I asked for Mr. Pessoa sketch and it was acceptable. The most intriguing thing was the ether ship over the building. As I investigated it I immediately understood that it should be more than a thousand years old. Everything is fragile in it now and all the components are filled with dirt and rust. Still it's an ether ship. Of an unknown design, but, very familiar in a sort of way.
As I prepare to go to sleep, three things plays in my mind. The ether ship. The lack of male Ainduren. Sa'atia lips.

Crew and command options.

One of the basics of life is good crew and good command outweights better tech. At least I hope that it still counts. You can see the example of the "Flying Tigers" in china. Rommel in north Africa. Etc.

I think that maybe re-rolls or better marines would be a good way to portrate better crew and command.

I'm pretty much happy with the game system and all the optional rules. Really. I find that nothing is missing. Yap.

Continuity?!
MJ12games made 3 books. Vey good and all from different universes, but I would like to have a continuing saga. With ship models having 3 and 4 or 10 versions. Where the story evolved a lot. Star empires, revenge, obliteration of races, alien artifacts buried in lost worlds. The thing. Maybe in a co-production with FFG, with all the empires of Twilight Empires, where MJ12 would do the rules and FFG would make the minis... Just a thought, don't shoot at me.

That's all I guess...
