What do you mean by "both"?
We do offer bundles through RPGNow.com, but the direct downloads are limited to one product at a time...
Increased Damage = Increased Impact
All of the T26 guns should have the same stats -- the Sumida is a typo.
1) Is anyone completely turned off by binders with loose-leaf sheets as opposed to perfect-bound softcover books? The idea being that the rulebook would be sold with a binder, and supplements would be stored in the same binder and reorganized to match your particular preferences.
2) Some have noticed that the option for full-color printed books is not available on the web site right now -- that's because printing costs shot up dramatically in recent months. Up until now, we've been operating on a roughly 50% surcharge (i.e. a book that costs $16.95 BW would be $24.95 in color). In order to make it cost effective to continue offering full-color, we'd have to change that to more like 100% (i.e. $16.95 becomes $32.95). Considering this, is the option for full-color really important to people?
I'll see your 7 inches of snow and raise you 2 feet!
I think you're just gonna get all the snow that doesn't fall on us...
I'm stuck halfway to work, because there's three inches of snow on the ground already ... and it's the last week of March.
WTF?
To be as effective as possible Matt needs to have targets on both sides of his ships. In a way, my weapons are more optimized because of their Arcs as the fire isn't spread out over a bigger area. Has this been taken into account in ORAT?
No... but it has been suggested.
It's not a question of point values, IMHO, but of tactics.
With a purpose-built fleet, you have a pretty good idea of how to use your ships to their best effect.
With a "vanilla" fleet, there's almost too much choice in how to deploy your forces, move your ships, and concentrate your attacks.
I don't mean to imply that a vanilla fleet CAN'T win -- just that HOW to win is less clear; a good player can overcome this: formulate a plan and stick with it. Unfortunately, I get too caught up in the moment and tend to make some very silly decisions early on in a game and spend the rest of the time trying not to make it worse.
You said it yourself: "Play to your strengths." But if your fleet has no strengths (or EVERYTHING is a strength ), that's easier said than done.
As one who likes pretty basic, "generic" designs (I like to think of them as "interchangeable" ), I feel your pain. Unfortunately, I don't know that there's much that can be done about it.
A purpose-built fleet that is used well is likely to win out over the vanilla fleet most every time -- especially with my die rolls.
On the other hand, a vanilla fleet is more "realistic" in that it's more strategically versatile ... for whatever that's worth in Starmada.
I ... must ... have ...

1. When a weapon with the "slow-firing"-trait is destroyed and being brought online again by damage control, does the weapon have to start its loading circle again i.e. may not fire in the next turn?
For the sake of simplicity in record-keeping, I'd say "no". Theoretically, this would allow for abuse if the weapon gets damaged and then repaired every turn ... but I find that unlikely.
2. Is there any rule that covers ramming ships and regular fighters?
Not at present. I personally dislike ramming as a tactic... it seems "unrealistic".
Are you thinking near-future 'this summer', or near-future 'maybe 2009'? That's something I'd buy print-and-PDF of in a heartbeat!
I'm thinking "next month".
Tigress and Plankwell are some of the larger ships in the Traveller setting (500K and 200K dtons, respectively). Hundreds of missile racks, huge spinal weapons, lots and lots of fighters, missile defenses (sand and repulsor), etc. Power Projection's SSD for Tigress is a half-sheet wall of missile battery icons.
(Hmm...a one-arc super-mega-death beam, some point-defense-type specials, and more carrier capacity than is sane...this might be easier than I thought...)
Oh. I think my geek cred just took a hit.
So, after fiddling with High Guard, Power Projection, Full Thrust, Silent Death and Slag!, I find myself again at Starmada.
Welcome back!
I've got AE and ISS print versions, and I'll probably end up getting the PDF versions of H&C, IRN and DRN (unless there's another way to get the Starmada-useful rules from them?).
I'm certainly not going to tell you NOT to buy them ... but I do plan to release a rules-only book in the near future that compiles all the stuff from the first four supplements.
I have to say, the ship design system was one of those things that pulled me back in. There's a little insane part of me that wants to try to stat up a Tigress or Plankwell...
I don't get the reference.
Game Design Question: Why the 'no opposing ships in the same hex' rule? It seems...funky. (ETA: Not that it's bad, it's just something that struck me on today's read-through as odd - unless it's to keep the minis from getting tangled up?)
Yes, there's the whole minis getting tangled issue -- there's also the firing arcs issue. When two ships are in the same hex, what arcs can be brought to bear?
Art Question: What software was used to make the ships for the latest versions? My oldest kid wants to dabble in such things, which I encourage, but we're not sure where to start.
DOGA. Mike Dugan can tell you lots more about the art process.
I like the Dogfight image.
Wow, but it's been rather dead around here this week... is everyone on Spring Break?
I believe I've fully recovered... but then the day job got all busy and stuff.
But it's Spring Break now, so if there's anything y'all wanna talk about, now would be a good time.
...22 years old today. Now to try and make it to 23...
Congrats!
Nice to see there's still some young'uns out there...
The one that's in this link http://mj12games.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=395
or http://www.mj12games.com/faq
Umm... as far as I can see, that never existed... ?
1) I will bring up the FAQ issue with the powers that be... Dan?
I'm sorry ... but what FAQ?
Which "missing fleets" are you talking about?
I was thrilled the other day to receive the unpunched, near-mint copy of XTR's "Red Sky Morning" that I won on eBay. I remember buying this game back in college, and I have fond memories of it.
But for the life of me I can't remember actually playing it, or why I liked it so much.
Here's a link to a review: http://grognard.com/zines/so/so51.txt
I was just wondering if others had games like this that they remember fondly -- but don't know why...
Innovative Game Designers Unite!
Amarillo Design Bureau and Majestic Twelve Games are proud to announce an agreement has been reached to develop Klingon Armada: a Starmada supplement set in the Star Fleet Universe.
Tentatively scheduled for release in the summer of 2009, Klingon Armada will contain all of the rules options, additions, and starship designs necessary to allow players to pit forces of the Klingon Empire against their perpetual enemies, the Star Fleet of the United Federation of Planets. Future products of the Star Fleet Armada series will expand the scope of this partnership to include the Romulan Star Empire, the Tholian Holdfast, and other combatants of the Star Fleet Universe.
Starmada is a miniatures board game of starship combat. At its most basic level, players take command of space fleets in a general attempt to reduce each other to just so much space junk. At its most advanced, the game can be customized to breathe life into any science fiction background that players might imagine.
Novices shouldn't fret; the core set of rules has been designed with simplicity and ease of play in mind, accessible even to beginners. On the other hand, seasoned veterans should find the concise nature of the rules quite refreshing. It allows players to concentrate on the finer points of squashing their opponents rather than arguing about rules interpretations, without sacrificing any of the flavor or excitement of more complex games.
Simple, but not simplistic, is the guiding principle.
This product line will unite one of the most innovative game designs in the industry with one of the strongest genre backgrounds there is. While the classic Star Fleet Battles was designed for individual ship combat, Starmada was designed from the start for massive fleet battles, using a clean and fast-playing rules system. Klingon Armada will allow players who have long enjoyed such massive battles to now use the fleets of their favorite television and movie empires.
Given that Starmada was designed to be used with miniatures, it will be a natural tie-in to the existing line of Starline 2400 ships used in the Star Fleet Universe. Klingon Armada and the products to follow will be designed to use the existing Squadron Boxes, vastly expanding the market for those products.
The joint venture also envisions moving the new PDF edition of Starmada into retail stores.

1) Continue to move in the direction of the "4" or,
2) Continue to move "forwards" - IE the facing after the "P" turn?
It will move in the direction of its current facing. So, the answer is (2).
