I can assure you that, while some of them are song lyrics, none of them are 'misheard'.
Although others are a bit too obscure, and I haven't seen them all yet (an unfortunate consequence of bookmarking the forum directly). Since you sya "sources, I assume they are from a varied blend of (geek) sources
Yup.
I have to go now. I have to get into my Colonial Viper pilot costume and get into the right frame of mind for the return of BSG
<blasphemy>
I don't "get" the new BSG... haven't watched it since about midway through the first season.
</blasphemy>
Perhaps a more difficult contest would be to see who can identify the sources of the quotes that show up at the top left of the mj12games.com pages...

I'm not sure who the "high patents" are, but I haven't seen any dislike or animosity. If anything, there's more excitement and enthusiasm on these forums lately... I for one find it refreshing.
The only minor thing I've seen is that Dugan did ask that people stop calling him Admiral (or "Sir"), but that seems not to have stopped...
thedugan wrote:but it's not like everyone is all in the same office (or even state)
Although ... that WOULD be cool.
Blacklancer99 wrote:Nope, I didn't miss those posts. My point is that without others interested in what you are doing, it dies, and nobody knows or cares. The Starmada gang is lucky that people like what they do.
Nah, it's not luck.
It involves chickens, a duck, three walnuts and a cow, but no luck...
Frankly, I was trying to be lighthearted, but you seem to have taken it personally. For that I apologize.
...
Hope I'm not too insubordinate Admiral, Sir.
When you've reached Sub-Lieutenant or so, you'll realize Dugan takes a bit of acclimatization (as do many people when you can only infer their meaning from photons on a screen)...
I don't believe any offense was taken.
Blacklancer99 wrote:Besides, the way I look at it, me paying for Starmada products allows Dan and his band of merry men to get their creative fix and still manage to live somewhere besides their parents basement, or in a group home. what can I say...I'm an enabler.
I like that...
"Dan and his band of merry men".
Don't make me put a limit on the number of smilies allowed in a single post...
Blackronin wrote:So we have at nineteen hundreed and something an Admiral of the Fleet. And then?
And then... nothing.
That's it.
Doesn't go higher than Fleet Admiral... and if you think I got this rank because of my number of posts, you'd be mistaken. There are benefits to being the Administrator.
One of the exciting (for me) new features of the new site is the ability to provide PDF downloads directly -- i.e. without recourse to middlemen like RPGNow or e23. I mean no offense to such retailers: I shop them all the time, as they are great for browsing and finding stuff you might not otherwise have tried. But now when you want to grab that one MJ12 product as an eBook, you can do so without leaving the site.
Doesn't that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside?
Before the switch to phpBB3, we had in the range of 500 members on this forum.
Of course, a lot of those were spambots, and others hadn't been active over two years, so I did some pruning.
thedugan wrote:I'm working on something for Dan right now
It's GOOD to be the King... er... Fleet Admiral.
At the risk of whetting appetites too early, here's something Dugan's been working on. It gave me goosebumps, so I had to share...
Did this for Kevin over the weekend, thought I'd share...
thedugan wrote:The next Starmada supplement - "Hammer and Claw" wasn't that long ago...
Dreadnoughts was the last Starmada supplement, in July -- six months back.
Grand Fleets (2nd Ed.) - Gee, Kevin, what's holding THAT up.
Actually, it's me.
underling wrote:I almost had to snort wine out of my nose when I read this.
Even though I've been involved with two out of the four from this list in the past, as far as I know nothing's going on for any of the four.
That's just sad, sad, and more sad.
Kevin
Yes, it is sad that more work isn't being done.
But I will say that one of them is close to completion.
Blackronin wrote:2) The book should have ships for every race of the TI universe (14, a lot, yes I know) and the ships should have upgrades that could be used as the players research new technologies. That would be absolutely beautiful. If you need help, please say so. I'll be glad to help.
Our license to use Twilight Imperium expired a long time ago. I do not see us pursuing its renewal.

Not bad... although I think the sails are way too small.
This discussion is illustrative of something I decided for Starmada a LOOONG time ago. Namely:
We don't care about the HOWS or WHYS of space travel and/or combat, only the WHATS.
Thus, you can explain the mechanics of fighters however you'd like -- all we care about is how they function within the game.
OldnGrey wrote:Reading the Whats Missing thread seems very familiar. Almost like looking at the wish list for Starmada X.
I think that I must have added most of the things listed to the Starmada X shipyard at one time or another.
Yeah, well... the number of suggestions/wishes that are out there means I can't keep track of them all. I like to take stock every so often.
1)Question for Dan, will this work. (Do not actually see the need but here goes)
In theory, yes. But I'm with you -- I don't see the need. (But then, I don't see the NEED for a lot of things we've added to the game over the years... )
Dave wrote:The Fighter Defense roll always struck me as going against the game's trends. Rolling lower for this is better, where with other rolls rolling higher is better.
The fighter Defense value is based on the shield rating, where higher IS better (for the attacker, who is making the rolls).
Also, any reason for no Attack 2+ Fighters? Too powerful?
Just didn't think anyone would need 'em. Silly me...
Okay, so rather than wade through the various posts looking for things y'all think need to be added to Starmada, I thought I'd just start a topic specifically to collect wish lists.
So, think big. What's missing from the Universal Game of Starship Combat?
falstaffe wrote:Is the changing ORAT the reason weapon range is in multiples of 3? I'd assumed that it was to avoid min-maxing/munchkinism. (It would be easy enough to divide any weapon range--say, range 10--into thirds, rounding off.)
Nope. Weapon ranges are in multiples of 3 just because of the easy division.
Theoretically, you could choose any range value and the game shouldn't break.
Dave wrote:I have to ask though, are you a stats professor?
Heh. No.
"But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night."
Apparently, so has Iron Stars.
But neither appears on http://www.rpgnow.com/metal.php
Blackronin wrote:As for Zeppelins, airships, dirigibles, blips, etc, it does't start hurricanes, it crashes on hurricanes.
Are a poor weapon mount because... it leaks.
One too many crew member and it can't lift up in the air.
You want to go west, but the wind is blowing south, so you go south-west.
It's fun for an expedition adventure, but will it work against the kind of fire power already created in this universe?
Well, we've pretty much established that ether-ships won't function in atmosphere -- so there's really nothing on Earth that is any more "powerful" or dominating than what was available historically. So, Zeppelins would offer exactly what they did historically -- a stable observation platform and relatively cheap method of transport.
With the additional Wasserstahl/hydrosteel as a tough yet light exoskin, and replacement of hydrogen with a less explosive gas, Zeppelins could easily carve out an important niche in warfare.
Heck, the airplane dominated WW2, both on land and over the sea, yet you can't mount a 12" gun on one of those, either...
