I do not think that the rules state if there is a shield saving throw against Marine hits.
In other threads Armor has been described as representing various things, Plates, extra bulkheads, strengthening etc.
It is my belief that Marines should cost more and only have to take living space (Hull) to capture a ship, they would then be the "ignores Armor" weapon that has been sought after.

P 16 states "All fighter counters in the same hex are considered a single target".
A Proximity weapon with three attack dice can potentially only destroy 1 fighter flight and damage another if six fighter flights (counters) are in the same hex but have a chance of destroying all if they are each in an adjacent hex to the target.
Is that correct?
Paul
I can see a potential question with regards Proximity weapons P25.
What happens to multiple fighter flights in the target or adjacent hex?
How about adding a (two page if you can manage it) quick reference sheet at the back of the book? A lot of rules books used to have a two sided loose insert. I have even seen ones with two, one for each side/player (there were not many in those days ).
Paul
Dan has said in another thread, to two decimal places.
Paul
Page 65, example with same trait more than once.
"BAS 0f 6.08 (1(ROF) x 2.25 (IMP) x 0.75"
Where did the 0.75 come from? I have "x 0.60", page 63, making the BAS 4.86
Paul
What would be needed?
Using my new arc reminder means it is easy to use the arc overlays already there. Most of Nova is the same as AE so I suspect not much is needed. Maybe a change of the fighters and reload?
Paul
I thought that the KLA+ weapon traits were being saved for a later book.
Hellbore was not mentioned in the conversion either.

My book says "A weapon cannot possess more than two range-based traits"... :?:
It was not a quote.
In another thread you said that you were going to change it to explain that only the range based combinations in the chart were allowed. I think you may have put what you were going to change?
Also not a quote (still feel rotten).
Sorry if I got it wrong.
Paul
Version 1.0 still has not been changed on page 48 regarding a weapon cannot have two range based traits.

Re-cycle, they can be sold as satellite dishes.

madpax wrote:I just want to understand how the SAE shield has been converted to SNE armor as in the Arcturans.
I may be wrong but I didn't see that in the rules.
Marc
Dan does say on page 49.
"Also, note the designs in this book (starting on p.53) have been optimized using the new construction rules, and may differ from the results of a strict conversion of the SAE designs using these guidelines".
There is no conversion of SAE shield to Nova armor, the ships have been re-designed and optimized from the ground up anew making changes to the ships that Dan thought were needed.
Paul
madpax wrote:I don't know if it has been noted before, but the Daitenshi from the converting chapter is different from the Daitenshi in the ship profile list, as the Arcturan ships don't have shields.
And the converting chapter doesn't say how much armor boxes you add to a design except when it has armor plating. Note the Tetsukabe!
Marc
Dan has mentioned that the Daitenshi in the conversion chapter is just an example of going by the book.
The ships in the lists have in some cases been re-defined and are not straight conversions.
You are correct that in the conversion chapter it only tells you how much armor to add for "straight" conversion of SAE ships where Nova ships only get armor if the SAE ship has armor plating.

murtalianconfederacy wrote:You imagine correctly. I did find a use for my 1/2cm squared paper, but going through all five batteries of weapons, doing the dice strings, then the ORat.../shudders
And, of course, I made quite a few errors. I might end up leaving the designs I've done for SAE, and maybe 're-imagine' them similar to how Dan did the Arcturans.
I converted all of the weapons used on the B&K book when I first saw Nova last year. Now I think some of those would have to be re-thought, just glad that will be Jay's job.
On the other hand it did serve as an incentive to get the shipyard put together.

Adding to shipyard and graphic, any others I have missed?

Actually, PS = HIJK.
 , That is so weird, I could have sworn that someone had already asked for the opposite of TR before PS was added and assumed that was it. Back to the drawing board.
What about RT for HIJKL?
Paul
BeowulfJB wrote:BTW, a suggestion; since all ships have firecontrol for their weapons, call the Starship System "Advanced Fire Control".
They do?
You mean that there is not a poor ****** crewman/droid sitting on the barrel/emitter with a talk-box shouting "To the Left", "Up a bit", "A bit more", "OK FIRE!". Well that's ruined my image of how it works
BeowulfJB wrote:A proposal for another arc: The opposite ot TR, which is like a FXX; Call it TF to represent weapons with a 300 degree arc around the stern, an AXX. After this, I (sort of) promise to ask for No More new arcs.
Already been covered, PS = HIJKL.

A Drake notation? "I am going to finish my game of boules".
Oh, that's not what was meant?
I guess a mono spaced font with a few special touches is required. Might solve any alignment problem?
Would anyone want to have another font to install?
Is there an idiot out there willing to spend the time on making one to include boxes and boxed numbers?

It's not April 1st yet.
Weird? Physically possible?
I guess "Q" might have tied one in a knot.
Paul
Not at all, nice to know someone may use it.
I keep one laminated as a handy reminder.
BTW New version which I will include with the next shipyard. though not written in stone yet.

Edit:updated.
Blacklancer99 wrote:Is that Stupidly Large Dice Throwing in terms of the number of the dice, or the scale? It had never occurred to me to make a d6 out of a washing machine box until tonight...
Somehow I always feel like Dan does exactly what he always intended to do, he just bounces stuff of of the forum to make us all feel like we are part of the process Either that or he is like Dr House and he needs a "team" to get his brain in gear!
Erik
I meant large number for the throwing of. But I have seen BIG dice, the fluffy type would come in handy to take a rest on after throwing 50 odd of them!
"Honestly officer, He only threw one dice and took out the opposition on six other tables!"

Blacklancer99 wrote:Marauder wrote:cricket wrote:Is there a reason you couldn't just use "tough" fighters to simulate gunboats?
Its the weapon range that is the problem. Tough is good for a very sturdy fighter (or maybe one with shields) or perhaps a very agile fighter.
I realize we are throwing a lot of stuff at you, in what is essentially a finished product that just needs a few i's dotted and t's crossed. That's fair enough - but perhaps you can take all of this stuff as inspiration for Nova's first supplement?
-Tim
I have the feeling that Starmada since its inception has never been, and will going forward, never be a finished product. Every so often Dan just provides us with the most updated version, and promptly starts the next generation.
Erik
What do you expect, with a steady stream of "I Want", "If I had" and "I need".
Maybe if Dan said no more often there might be a breathing space. House rules abound but people will always want the rules to say that it is ok for their super destroying - ultra range - death dealing - ship melting - borg eating - stupidly large dice throwing - uber what-not to be "rules legal".
Try saying that three times in a row!

BeowulfJB wrote:Is there an arc that is the same as CD in SAE? When I make a USS Texas, the center Heavy Gun turret has that arc. Thanks.
Not at present but I was just wondering this afternoon how long it would be before someone asked.
For some strange reason I was thinking of Dreadnoughts.
CD? (Cross Deck)
If Dan gives the OK I'll add it to shipyard with PS.
Paul
Drones do not have a time limit, they have a designated target on launch which they must try to attack like seekers, like "single minded" fighters. They can be attacked on route and are lost if the designated target no longer exists.
Fighters do not have endurance figures either.
Paul
I knew that, did not want to spoil it for anyone else
There is a Halloween episode of castle where he wears his outfit from Firefly.
I like those little touches in some episodes.
Anyone remember Andromeda when Hunt opens a panel in his quarters and there is a sword and blonde wig?
Paul
Anyone having trouble moving over to using BAS could take a look at shipyard nova. Scroll right on the ship sheet
