Yes at least twice at Jutland.

It seemed a bit odd with the Germans heading one way and then the other...and then another Gefechtskehrtwendung. Maybe I just have to get used to it.

But as a house rule, best that all players agree on how to implement it before the game starts.  smile

Thanks for the explanations! Really enjoying the game.

Thanks, you deduced my thoughts. If the Germans trained to use Gefechtskehrtwendung (hand me a tissue) then it makes sense -- under the game assumption they have an agressive admiral -- for them to use it to help offensively. I do think the once a game limit would be a very good idea.

Have been tinkering with a Castles of Steel house rule to allow the Germans to do the 180 turn on an Ace (the battle turn away maneuver). However in our 400-point game the German player used it as an offensive weapon as opposed to preventing his "T" from being crossed as at Jutland. In effect he used it to change the direction of our parallel-running gun duel.

So wondering if we should restrict this rule (perhaps twice a game) or just stay with the regular turning rules (which would require 3 move activations). Or maybe allow the turn away on a face card (but later discarding the Ace unused to keep the movement rates equal). What do others think?

1) The rules do not mention if ships block LOS. The scale is 2 nautical miles per hex for Grand Admiral. So I am wondering if, for example, a line of BBs or BCs that are in between your BB and the target BB would block due to the intervening ship profile and funnel smoke.

2) Stacking rules say five ships per hex. Sound reasonable to allow 1 DD Flotilla and 1 CL per hex along with the five ships?

3) I was drawing up the orders of battles for Jutland and appears there are not stats for a couple of older DD classes.

I made these:

Acheron-class DD
same as Acasta class except:
1 VP and no torpedoes

V1-class DD
3 VP, 4 torps, 5/2 speed, 1/1 gun and 0 penetration at range 1 and 2 (but 1 is short range), armor 2/2, hull 2.

thanks,

Hello Daniel,

I finally had a chance to play your game a couple of times the other night, and very impressed with how much fun it was. Have posted a review at TMP http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=229369 which also should appear on the Grand Admiral: Castles of Steel page at Boardgamegeek.

thanks,

When should we expect the release of Grand Admiral: Castles of Steel?

Will there be rules to account for the magazine explosions of the British battlecruisers at Jutland?

A friend let me know about your demo rules and they look like a fun simple system.

thanks

Does the Flashpoint Orange book have a stat generator in case I want to create the ships for Dogger Banks for example?
