On the DISPLAY tab, between the PV of the ship and the yellow box where you can select SHIP1, SHIP2, etc. there is a drop down box with a "1" in it. Click to drop it down, and you'll see at the bottom of the drop down 3 checked boxes, "Select All", "1", "0". Uncheck "0", then select OK. This will remove all the boxes that the sheet doesn't need. This is also the same thing on the DRAKE tab.

Full instructions for Drydock 2.0 can be found on pp 73-76 of the main rulebook (MJG-140 v2.0).

Cheers.

I just realized that bi-directional shielding will probably be covered when the SFB/SFU Andromedan book comes out.

An interesting concept, ala the Heavy Combat Vehicles from Babylon 5 Wars.

For shields, if you were to keep the Fore/Aft or Port/Starboard values the same, there wouldn't be a need to change the calculation. For different Fore/Aft values (I can't see a need for different starting P/S values), A simple fix in Drydock would simply be to use the Fore value in the Fore/Port boxes, and the Aft value in the Starboard/Aft boxes. You'd need to recalculate the shield box values manually.

Screens... A simple plug would be 22.5 SU per Box. For DRAT for F/A screens, a F screen counts as 1.17 hull boxes, and an aft counts as 0.83.  For P/S each would count as 1.00 hull boxes. Fixing this in Drydock like above is not as easy, and would require some serious tweaking.

Some Errata I've noticed in the ships:

Klingon B9 - the port nacelle was cropped off
Klingon B5 - Ditto
Romulan King Condor - Plasma-S should be 2x LP, 2x RP, Plasma F should be 2x RH
Romulan Sparrowhawk-H - Little confused. According to canon, and the ship description (p12), it wasn't able to carry pods. Yet there's a display for one with pods (p39).
Gorn Godzilla BB - Same as King Condor

Otherwise looks good.

So yeah, missed the offset thing in the rules.

Though I'm wondering about converting. Not sure what source you used for the ships. I mean, I know they're based off the miniatures (rather than the old Fleet Books), but I'm not sure what set of stat blocks you used. I've tried looking at a bunch, and the odd one matches the loadouts in the book.

The main reason I'm interested, is a lot of the material out there uses the unofficial "Continuum" rules, which adds a bunch of weapons and other systems. Which I'd like to take a stab at converting, but it would help so have a bit more info, like we had with the SFU material.

Cheers.

Something looks very wrong to me. A lot of the ships have firing arcs like "ABD, ACE", or "ABD" all on it's own. Now, I'm not 100% sure where your source material comes from, but typically all the Full Thrust designs I've seen have had symmetrical loadouts.

I fear this may be an error in the spreadsheet.

I just noticed that the ships in the graphic at the top of pg 14 look exactly like the Klingon Raptor-class from Enterprise (S1E14). Don't see any art credits being mentioned, so dunno if you knew about that or not.

Okay, I'm killing myself here.

Tried repeatedly to find ORAT/DRAT/CRAT values for the ESGs, and can't. Any chance you could let us (me?) know?

EDIT: Clarified what I was looking for.

(15 replies, posted in Starmada)

I realized that there are some questions for those of us wanting to convert our own ships. Namely the ORAT/DRAT values for the Expanding Sphere Generators and Stingers. And thinking of Stingers, some of the Hydrans don't have as many stingers as their Star Fleet Battles counterparts do. (ie. The Paladin DN has 12 Stingers, you only listed 8.) Is that a FedCom vs SFB issue, or was there a reasoning to reducing some of the Stingers?

As a note, I find Stingers themselves to be rather overpowered, especially given that they could only fire one Fusion/Hellbore shot before having to return and rearm. (I'm looking at my own take on them.)

I'd also like to pick your brain some day about how you came up with the weapon stats. smile Some of them don't make as much sense to me (Hellbores have a longer reach than Fusions in SFB.) **Again, using SFB as my source material, not FedCom.

I know before v2 alot of the items simply had no modifiers to values. The Exp2/4 trait for drones (now) was the same at the base Exp trait. Same with Evp, Web Generator, ShK, etc.; they were all 1.0 modifier.

I'm working on a version of the spreadsheet for SFU ships. Once I have it done I'll see of Dan will let me post it.

Because an Immobile unit by definition has no Engine Track.

Okay. I initially read it as everything (including Hull, my bad), got half-hits. I was also applying it to Star Fleet Battles Armada, where the immobile bases have Engine tracks, and therefore a "4" wasn't a "free" hit.

So as a clarification, do half-hits only apply to the immobile unit, or all the units in the scenario? Or, another view, can it only be applied to Immobile units and not other units?

Errata? - Pg 12, 3B.2 Engine Points; 2nd Para, first example: should it be 4EPs? 2 for acceleration + 2 for turn to port.

Question - pg 18, B.29 Immobile Trait; "This option requires the use of E.8: System Half-Hits": Why does Immobile require using the Half-Hits rule?

Drydock - Lancing and Semi-Lancing weapon traits missing. Pr+ is in weapon traits list.

Other than that, looking good. smile

So I wanted to tinker with the New drydock and rules, and decided at the same time to convert a couple of SFB ships published in The Federation Commander Communiques (that, to the best of my knowledge, have not been published in any other book).

I was thinking more along the lines of rules for Aegis FC, Bulkheads, et al. smile

One thing I realized wasn't addressed (that I know of) with the flexible range bands was Fire Control.

For example, a player may ignore the penalty for attacking a target at long range,

This was great when you were applying a -1 for firing at long range. But when you have 4 range bands, what's "long range"? If the Acc is 2+/3+/4+/5+, which range band(s) are you allowed to use the fire control, as technically there's no longer a long range penalty?

EDIT: Okay, answered in the Rules Annex.

I was wondering. It didn't say what the update was, just that the file had been updated since I last downloaded it.

And I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't been checking to see if ADB had released the Distant a/o Battleship books yet. smile

Is it possible to do a ballistic trait on non-standard ranges? For example on a weapon that had range bands of 4-9-16 (so ranges would actually be */5-9/10-16)?

20

(6 replies, posted in Starmada)

Plasma could be bolted or fired as a seeker. Earlier rules couldn't handle the concept, so bolted stats were given with the rest of the DF weapons, and the seeker modes had their own stats included in the rules. Drones were always seekers.

As for "canon", ADB has a licence that goes back before TNG, and quite possibly the motion picture. Technically anything they create is canon, at least in their licensed universe. That's a whole different topic I might explain elsewhere.

Can you give us a hint when the 2020 Rules Annex will be officially released?

22

(6 replies, posted in Starmada)

Most likely I'd say. There were never any non-Hydran fighters in the Admiralty and Nova editions. And the SFU had a bad habit of adding fighters in non-Starmada multiples of 6, which makes things tricky.

Also, I hated the idea of fighters in Star Fleet Battles. smile

Okay, gotta ask something here. As shield rating isn't used in SFB (and as such an IMP >1 is seemly pointless), why the IMP 2 on the Hellbore cannon? Part of the special rule for Hellbores, or a way to get damage above 5? (Because you can have DMG >5 in Starmada, just saying.)

Also, any chance of getting previews on the other unreleased weapon stats? Pretty please? smile

Not sure why you would do that... Drydock v2.0 includes everything you see here.

A few reasons really. I like the old sheet. I like mucking with Excel as a hobby (and your sheets are an education unto themselves). I've already heavily modded the sheet to begin with, and don't want to have to figure out how to tweak the new one. smile

The only thing I couldn't figure out how to add was the AEGIS system. But we don't have any rules for the new traits anyways (and I have a feeling several of them are specific to Full Thrust anyways).

So is the SFU material going to be updated (namely the point values), or will it run under the old calculations?
