Another, more "realistic" take on terrain.

I like the new style, just remember not to make color have meaning... or ask me if I can see the colors.

(Looks like a piece of wire too)

I wasn't necessarily thinking we should mash everything together -- rather, come up with a single background that can be plugged into each of our existing games and help drive the production of new ones.

ooh that's very corporate of you, next thing you know we'll be talking about long term goals and enterprise vision.

Consider Games Workshop. Whatever you think of their games, their approach to rules writing, or their business plan, they have a very solid background that informs all of their products (well, two backgrounds that are very similar).

I see. I think it can help for sure, as long as it doesn't become the defacto and keep the new stuff from coming out of the player community. a fair share of what makes us cool is the open-ness of the various "systems".  I do realise tho, that some people want a pre-set background they can fit into rather than complete openness which they then have to form for themselves.

So whaddya have in mind?

very cool

We need an MJ12Games logo brand...

hey, Hi backatcha!

there hasn't been much discussion that I can remember about house rules, not because we don't encourage that here, but because, I think, Starmada can handle pretty much any idea you have.

But if you make your own ships, be sure and stick them in the Bourbaki basin, I know I personally troll through there avery time I go to a convention and I usually find all I need to run a good con game (er...) there.

as far as the shipbuilder goes, all I can say is that there are "plans in the works"(tm)...

Hey, I just like cheese, man!

I've only visited Wisconsin, so I couldn't be the Cheese Head...

I am stuffed with cheese, however.

There exists a Starmada:AE Mod for Vassal IIRC.

Tough learning curve, but tons of people use Vassal, I just couldn't get it to work.

Oddly enough, I got that smile

The question is, will this background incorporate all new material or will it use the existing materials and press them together like sheet of MDF?

I completely agree, but I think the point is that we would mash the various backgrounds together somehow?

or was it to  come up with a completely new background?

I need more info!

Like cheddar mixes with bleu... but not bad, except I'm allergic to bleu cheese so I have to eat less.

by default background, how does that work with our various non-starmada games?

I can see a tie in with ares and For the Masses, Defiance and Starmada, but I'm having a hard time putting Powersled Circuit and Aces at Dawn "with" anything in particular?

But, I'm all for a default mj12 universe, even if it starts with just Starmada.

or a different and more suitable word of encouragement, like

I am behind you 100%, Sr. Kast!

I think they're both in "serious" relationships so that sort of thing doesn't probably interest them.
