The sonic whale thing was an idea from a old-ish anime called Blue Sub 6.

I think the Dection thing is a better idea than full double blind. (Only tried once with the old harpoon rules, kinda fun but needs 3 peeps to work well.)
If you still want to add a bit of complexity stealth, then allow the units to move as blips untill detected (I.e rough contact. But you don't know if its a weak old sub, or modern HK untill you get closer.) You could also borrow an idea from some other games, and allow fake contacts to moved untill a sensor roll succeds and removes them.

Sounds very intresting, looking forward to see what you got.

As long as I can make my bio-engineneerd Whales, with sonic cannons. I will play it.

 What?

Also have you seen this?

Might be able to stir up some ideas.

I could see the timeline idea but I reckon it might be better done as a general Taster package. The do a series on specific engaments.

So
Battle of Britan
Spainish Civil War
etc
Include planes, background and scens.

Maybe. It'd be interesting to have a biplane in there. But I like the Defiant's turret. Smile

Lol, True is one of fav as well, I pity the poor ME 109, that dives from behind on it thinking its a spitfire.
Just thinking that any brits might feel a bit short changed...

Me 410 intresting choice, be intresting to see how it plays.

Honestly, it's the only other German fighter I could see including, having rejected the 262 for now...

Yeah I was scracthing my head as well, it would not be fair just to give them a different varient of the 109/190 assuming the rules are detailed enought to be worth the while going to that length.

I would suggest droping the D3A Val, maybe go with the KI- 27 Nate

You're absolutely right. I just realized I'd dropped all the other dive bombers but kept the D3A/Type 99. I would want to include a non-Nakajima model... maybe the Ki-61?

The ki-61 looks like a good choice or maybe the Ki-100 to give the amercian fighteres a few worries

With the US I would drop ethier the Mustang or Thunderbolt and go with the F4F Wildcat or the F2A Buffalo.

Well, the Mustang and Thunderbolt are the two most-produced American fighters of the war... can't imagine leaving either out.

I see your point, mostly I was thinking of trying to give a good spread since most of the fighters the US has a mid-late war.

Looking at the Russians it might be an idea to Drop one of the Yaks and go for ethier the Mig 1 or Mig 5. Just for variety

Overall not a bad selection..

I would drop one of the two Italian planes replace it with the Fiat CR.42 Falco
mostly for varity

Mostly I reckon it would give a better overall selection of aircraft for players to use.

In case you can't tell ... I'm really hoping that this will be the answer to keeping all that great Battletech "feel" without the "grind" of the combat system.

Thats music to my ears, love the setting and mechs, but hated how clunky the game could be.

I have played WHI and it is fast and easy to play honestly I found it easier than B5wars all in all.

And I still have nighmares about thoses Damn Plasma Torps eating up my poor ships.

Very nice.

So how would SRM's and LRM's work?

Oh! and your evil as well since now I feel I got to go and convert my fav mech across.

DRN-1G Grand Dragon.
Looking at your conversions I am guessing that 60-65 tons would be size 7?

Hmmm I do see your point it would be nice to make Drones along thoese lines.

Would the standard cost modifers work with Drones?

35

(4 replies, posted in Starmada)

I think it was in another thread but people felt that you be able to use the fighter mods on the drones to get some varity so Anti-ship etc.

36

(4 replies, posted in Starmada)

Well it looked like the idea was fairly popular so any idea on costs for the two items?

Would just using the costs etc. of Fighter Bays work? Should launch Bays still allow more than 5 Drones a Turn?

Speaking of area weaponry, how much would an are of effect (1hex) mod cost for a normal weapon?

If combined with the .5 damage rules would be a nice area denial weapon against fighters. kinda a galactia are suppresion attack.

Sorry to be doing a bit of thread necromancy here, but did anyone do anything on this? I would love a good generic space fighter game.

Out of intrest what would people want in a game, by which I mean how detailed would you want a fighter? Just basic stats (Speed, defense. attack?) or a bit more in depth (speed, manover, shields,Armour) then have indivual weapon stats?

Would an energy system be too complex? something along the lines of having the stats linked to ethier Engine, shields or weapons) weaken some to strenghten others (A big part of many space computer games which is where I am looking at the moment for ideas.)

Would bigger ships need to be in their at least to some degree, I would'nt mind it since some of the best moments in both starfighter games and movies come when the poor fighters get thrown against a cap ship and have to take it down (Lucifer anyone?)

Anyways thought I would try to get the ball rolling on this thread again =P

There was talk a while ago, I think it was in the star trek, thread about using the fighter mods to create custom drones.

If these are used would it not be a good idea to make a drone launcher equipment, that fires the drones. Then you just need to reserve space for your drones. (Simaler to how flightbays work)

I don't see the problem Britian heavily suppiled the Japanese Navy as way of having far east influence.

The warships supplied either directly or indirecrtly where the best at the time, so the chance of supplying a ship with lighting projectors is good within the setting, after all they will be utterly dependent of the Brits for spares.

I don't want the fleets to be cookie cutter, but at the same time, if humans can build it it won't be a huge amount of time before the various countries begin attempts to reverse engineer, if the game reachs the 1930's period, then I would think most of the tech will end up being generic, how its deployed and used will be the intresting part.

The light/dark side thing is kinda intresting, but very limited usage can't honestly see them being used much.

Diff. between Sub and destroyer, is the Destroyer is the length they can sail, the speed, and vartity of Jobs a Destroyer can do, subs arn't much good for convoy escort afterall.

Please let subs have medium/main guns I want my M class ether subs.

The British M class submarine monitor was a limited run (only 3 built) with a 12 inch deck gun. Admitly they where not massively succesful but the concept is to good not to try.
wiki link if your intrested in this particular sub.

One Idea possiblely is to borrow from Downtown, a Veitnam airraid game, with NVA planes in order to represent the diffculty the amercains had in decteting the Vietnisme aircraft it was possible to spawn "fake" chits, the real one is noted, they all move as normal until the real one is reveled/dectected then once it submerges again you can start running false trails again.

Must admit the idea of geeting roasted alive is not very appealing is it? Kinda reminds me of Warmachine Khador fractions? I think Man'o'Wars, steam power armour, which acording to the fluff is well known to steam boil the odd user.

As for a name looking at history what about ethier:

Turtles (Worlds first sub.) cicra 1775

Or prehaps more fitting

Nautilus/Nautili? (Personaly I like this one)

Actually Pre-WWI the Greeks did seem to have the stronger fleet and
won several Naval engaments with the Turkish Navy, also if it had not
seemed that the Greeks would have sitted the WWI out to begin with the
RN was going to supply them with sevral new ships of various classes.

(4 replies, posted in Iron Stars)

So after the ISSB was updated I've been plugging the existing ships in so that I have each fleet in one place but I seem to have hit a few snags with some of the ships.

1) Haemonculous come up as  39 points not 42

2) Sotham comes to 37 points not 40

3) Petrograd is overweight by 8 points

4) Saidan is overweight by 5 points

5) Huoshi is over weight by 4 points

I am pretty sure I have'nt screwed up inputting them so I Thought I'd bring it to peeps attention.
